im quite disappointed he is making a political stand
i dont mind if he chooses to vote republican, though i would prefer he voted democrat
but to go public and make a political statement is a step too far in my opinion.

i dont like the republican party anti liberal social policy
i think it is repressive and socially backwards and undermines equal rights.

in the interests of free market capitalism, i hope that all those twitter staff who were sacked and then asked to go back to work demand 5 times their normal wage and a lump sum re start money.

keeping in mind twitter have realized they need them but want to sack them as soon as possible
so their jobs wont last.

the x employees need to charge just enough to be a tiny bit more expensive than it would cost twitter to employ a new person then get them up to speed over several weeks if not months.

$5,000.00 lump some payment & at 4 times their normal rate plus tax

Considering the current world market it's not just down to Musk/Twitter, even Meta's on about getting rid of people.

The main problem is the constant increase in expenses for trained people over time. They might have been students on a low income to begin with, but over time they skill up and price up to boot. This means changes have to be made either through switching out staff regularly with cheaper students or completely changing their entire business model.

It's only really a problem with large companies, its not the same for SME's with less employees where their contributions are valued (At the loss of one employee can cripple the business).

As for the politics... Musk plays the market, thats proven from the number of hiccups he's had in the past. Sticking Republicans into Deadlocking the US government again (leading to blocking pay etc) creates market turmoil which only the rich gain from.

yeah facebook have announced a big fire-fest looming

using their algorithms to moderate instead of people and short staffing back to the norm.

AI can run facebook if they wanted, im guessing the only reason they have staff is to keep members happy to think they are not being run by computers.
& parents who will be very brand sensitive will be wanting humans to be moderating their children's social media, not computer programs.

facebook has lost its edge its now a compulsory business platform a bit like linkedin

i think the innovators will be moving to mastadon & possibly slack

twitter advertisers still pulling out

now elon has politically polarised his platform he is going to lose more advertisers.

i expect there will be natural shrinkage of advertising now the covid lock downs have finished
plus the bot accounts on twitter coming out will mean advertisers want to be paying a proper rate nothing over inflated.

how do advertisers get to the innovators ?
not by continuing to flood twitter and facebooks bank accounts with cash.

the expectation of twitter will be to have a flood of nasty hater abusive members coming back which is going to put a lot of parents off letting their kids have twitter accounts.

Obviously, you don't understand free market capitalism. If they are offered their job back, it would only be at the market rate...hence free market. They can make demands until they're blue in the face. Won't help a thing if others will do the same job for less.

but those employees have critical knowledge and a new replacement takes time and money and wont know some of the critical processes and systems.
so it will cost twitter a great deal of money to employ someone else
so they need to trade on their value and demand more money
the free market value will be what ever amount twitter is wiling to lose against spend to fix their mistake.
&
they have no job security which means they need to charge a higher rate as a temp employee because they have no job security.
thats how the free market employment scene generally works
except with unskilled manual labour

a good rate for the x twitter employees to charge is 1 month wages for 1 week work
they are likely to lose their job in a week or 2
