Keep your umbrella handy! They're forecasting another "atmospheric river" for you this week as well. We get those too which tends to result in flooding in the valleys and heavy snow in the mountains.

"An atmospheric river caused flooding and mudslides in California this week, with another expected in the next few days, spiking West Coast interest in a weather term that's relatively new, but increasingly part of conversations, news stories and academic research.

Early research studies on the weather phenomenon include a 1994 paper by MIT researchers Yong Zhu and Reginald E. Newell about "atmospheric rivers and bombs."

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration describes atmospheric rivers as "relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere – like rivers in the sky – that transport most of the water vapor outside of the tropics."

Atmospheric rivers can carry the water vapor equivalent of the water flow at the mouth of the Mississippi River, according to the federal agency. The vapor is released as snow or rain when the rivers make landfall."

It just started raining again! They say expect rain through tonight. It isn't heavy rain.

But there's 'Gale Watch' and a 'Flood Watch' up for Wednesday and Thursday. So it sounds like the powerful weekend storm might be back those days.

The storm is back. Where I live, it's less intense than last time. But by all accounts, strong 50 mph winds (up to 80 mph on the hilltops) are happening all around me and they are talking about exotic things like "landspouts"! (No funnel clouds have been reported so far.) Flood and Wind Warnings are in effect and flooding is definitely happening. I'm guessing that's due to creeks overflowing and the ground being totally saturated. Roads are being closed, some small-scale evacuations have been announced and emergency shelters set up.

Exceedingly heavy rain last night and this morning. My basement is a little flooded. Then it tapered off this afternoon. But a whole bunch of thunderstorms is headed this way, due to arrive tonight.

Somebody has been sacrificing to the wrong weather gods. This is California, so maybe they couldn't find the necessary virgins.

The good news is that California's supposedly-permanent drought (supposed to be the result of global warming) is definitely history, replaced by 400-600% normal rainfall (supposedly the result of global warming). (Well, why not?)

Timelapse from a satellite (this is a little scary)

Not a believer in the Almighty but I do believe in coincidence. If Patton can win the Battle of the Bulge by ordering his Chaplain to compose a fair weather prayer then perhaps Californians should get the clergy working on one.

We are having a severe storm, MR! 50 mph wind gusts, torrential rain, stuff blowing around. Electricity has been going off and on...

My garbage cans just blew out in the street. I went out to rescue them, was only out about two minutes, but came back in soaked like I had been standing in the shower.
