Save energy, Use a thermos flask.

It will likely seem completely "Anorak" to suggest using a thermos. (Considering the history of trainspotters waiting for a glimps of a locomotive with their thermos in hand) however I recently picked up a thermos with the intention of using it for traveling however, I've actually found it's a great replacement for a mug of coffee next to the computer.

It's sealed so limits the potential of spills (As long as I don't cross thread the top) and it keeps the coffee warm for hours. I realise that I had become a bit of a coffee addict at times, in fact as bad as a chain smoker (a person that lights their next cigarette from the one they about to stub out).

Every time my coffee got left and went cold, I'd automatically require refilling. This meant boiling the kettle again, or reheating the coffee that was left. It meant I was habitually wasting energy from extra boiling time and of course consuming way too much caffine (All those sleep deprived nights)

Since using the thermos, the amount of cups I have has drastically reduced (A thermos can keep the temperature hot for about 5 hours, so thats 3-4 cups a day rather than 6-9.)

That isn't of course all, Thermos's can also keep your drinks cool. So when it's hot, you can put a cold drink in the thermos and add some ice and it will stay cool for hours.

The only long term concern is going to be keeping it clean, especially if it gets filled with a variety of different drinks.

If I was the boss of a company, I'd be getting rid of mugs and getting some thermos's in for the employees to aid in reducing energy costs and reduce spill accidents. It would be interesting to see just how much energy would be saved if it cut everyone back but a couple of kettle boils.

I found a thermos like that too for my coffee. Keeps my coffee warm for hours too. Also holds twice as much coffee as a mug does.

I don't mind cold coffee so thermos doesn't apply to me but..
Lots of people boil a full(ish) kettle and just use a mugfull instead of emptying a mug of water into the kettle and just boiling that.

And another thing - water doesn't need to be cooked at boiling point to make coffee - just hot is good enough (at least for me).
