Once thought it was the capsaicin in jalapeños that hubby benefitted from (i.e., didn't really matter which pepper type, so much as the amount of Scoville units). But no longer sure it's entirely due to the capsaicin -- there might be other chemicals unique to jalapeños contributing to the effect.
