"Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as “genius” and “savvy,” praising his onetime counterpart for a move that has spurred sanctions and universal condemnation from the U.S. government and its trans-Atlantic allies.
“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.” “He used the word ‘independent’ and ‘we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.’ You gotta say that’s pretty savvy.”
Trump’s praise for the Russian president comes at a perilous geopolitical moment in Europe, where the Kremlin has amassed thousands of troops along the Ukrainian border. Already, Russian troops have invaded breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine that the Kremlin recognized as autonomous earlier this week. That recognition, as well as the subsequent invasion by Russian forces, prompted the U.S. and its allies in Europe to impose what President Joe Biden called “the first tranche” of sanctions against Moscow.
The comments from Trump also fit into a personal pattern of relatively warm rhetoric for Putin, especially compared to the abrasive approach that the former U.S. president employed in dealings with NATO and other U.S. allies. Trump repeatedly refused to accept the conclusion of the U.S. intelligence community that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, at one point telling reporters at a joint press conference with Putin that he had accepted the Russian president’s assurance that the Kremlin had not been involved."
Admitting that someone is obviously clever, like in knowing when they can literally get away with invading a country, isn't that same as supporting the action. The left has a serious problem with not being able to understand simple English. Instead, they just interject their own bias in the gaps left by their horrid comprehension of English.

I think you may have to read between the lines with this one, MR - Trump is probably not praising Putin, as much as comparing him to Biden; how this situation wouldn't have happened on 'his (Trump's) watch,' so to speak. That's how I take it, but I'm not a political mind-reader. lol

For rational people, the condemnation is a given. But for the dupes, here it is literally:
Former President Donald Trump defended his praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday while also calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "a brave man" amid Russia's deadly invasion of his country.
"He's a brave man, he's hanging in," Trump said of Zelensky in remarks at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, even as he declined to back away from complimenting Putin as "smart."
"The problem is not that Putin is smart, which, of course, he's smart," Trump said. "The problem is that our leaders are dumb... and so far, allowed him to get away with this travesty and assault on humanity."
Personally I think the best way forward is for Putin to be dealt with by the Russians themselves. I don't think he'll be able to hide the fact that he's started a war for long. If the war escalates then Putin will go from being the idiot that started the war to being (potentially) the hero that can win it.
Quote:New START limits all Russian deployed intercontinental-range nuclear weapons, including every Russian nuclear warhead that is loaded onto an intercontinental-range ballistic missile that can reach the United States in approximately 30 minutes. It also limits the deployed Avangard and the under development Sarmat, the two most operationally available of the Russian Federation’s new long-range nuclear weapons that can reach the United States. Extending New START ensures we will have verifiable limits on the mainstay of Russian nuclear weapons that can reach the U.S. homeland for the next five years. As of the most recent data exchange on September 1, 2020, the Russian Federation declared 1,447 deployed strategic warheads. The Russian Federation has the capacity to deploy many more than 1,550 warheads on its modernized ICBMs and SLBMs, as well as heavy bombers, but is constrained from doing so by New START.

He was being sarcastic, MR, duh! But I think a lot of people have more respect for Putin than they do for Biden. How in the hell did we ever elect a president that we wouldn’t even trust to babysit our children? He’s an absolute creepy idiot! He stopped the Keystone pipeline but allowed the Nord Stream pipeline to proceed.
The actual text:
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, what went wrong was a rigged election and what went wrong is a candidate that shouldn’t be there and a man that has no concept of what he’s doing. I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, “This is genius.” Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine. Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. (sarcastic)
So, Putin is now saying, “It’s independent,” a large section of Ukraine. I said, “How smart is that?” And he’s gonna go in and be a peacekeeper. That’s strongest peace force… We could use that on our southern border. That’s the strongest peace force I’ve ever seen. There were more army tanks than I’ve ever seen. They’re gonna keep peace all right. No, but think of it. Here’s a guy who’s very savvy… I know him very well. Very, very well.
By the way, this never would have happened with us. Had I been in office, not even thinkable. This would never have happened. But here’s a guy that says, you know, “I’m gonna declare a big portion of Ukraine independent,” he used the word “independent,” “and we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.” You gotta say that’s pretty savvy. And you know what the response was from Biden? There was no response. They didn’t have one for that. No, it’s very sad. Very sad.
He was also right when he said that it was very inappropriate for Germany to make a massive oil and gas deal with Russia and paying Russia billions and billions of dollars when we’re footing the bill to protect them from Russia. He also pointed out the corruption of the former Chancellor of Germany, Gerard Schröder, who made a 5 billion dollar deal right before he lost power and then accepted a rewarding position as a chairman of a Russian energy company Rosneft in 2017. In February of 2022, he was appointed as a director of the Russian state-owned company Gazprom. Not to mention, Angela Merkel’s ties to Russia, who also pushed for the pipeline, which weakened Ukraine and Poland, and it’s now clear that they were right in saying that it was a tool for Russia to support aggression against Ukraine. They’re reporting that the Russians have already blew up a Kharvic gas pipeline. Everyone claimed that it was purely commercial but just imagine the future impact. Russia will have the power to cut off gas supplies and the rising demand for other sources will effect all of Europe.
I don’t think this would have happened if Trump was still in office. Let’s go Brandon! (golf-clap)
BTW, I just got back from Puerto Rico. It was beautiful! The plane is usually half empty but this time it was full. I sat by a young woman that said her husband was shipped out to Poland. She didn’t want to stay at the army base by herself, so she decided to pack up and head back home to her family in Puerto Rico. That’s why the plane was so packed. Most of the wives were heading back home. It was sad.
Usually, when I get home and cross the Golden Gate, I think…ah, home-sweet-home, but not this time. California is turning into a shit hole.
No he wasn't. He's enamored by Putin. We all saw this when he visited him. Dictators admire and enable other dictators.
I listened to the entire podcast and even the original text included "sarcastic" in parentheses. He was the only President that called out Germany on the Russian pipeline. That doesn't sound like enabling to me.
"Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful. (sarcastic)"
