3D Printed homes for sale

Do you see this catching on? Less expensive than homes built by ''traditional'' construction methods, and potentially environmentally sound, but seems like they're designed to be built rather fast. Like really fast. I suppose this drastically cuts labor costs, and houses can be move-in ready far quicker than normal construction (although, there's still the issue of plumbing, interior wiring, etc) but how safe would one be in a severe thunderstorm, or six months of brutal winters? Sounds like an insurance nightmare. Confused

There's a video of a German company doing something similar.
The video answers some of the questions left unanswered by S4QD - how do you print a ceiling or floor? - You can't - they're prefabbed off site and craned on - crane? Did S4QD need a crane?

That aside. There is the potential for truly stunning architecture for homes to fall in love with - and the potential for ghastly mistakes. I'd want to try out a design for a month or so before considering buying it. As the cookie crumbles I own two houses at present - one is small and cosy and I love it and the other looks much better designed but I don't think I will ever be able to live in it.

En-suite bathrooms are wonderful when you live on your own but I really don't want to crap in the room next to my lover - I want to vanish and return with a light coating of morning dew on my skin.

Edit - one of my ex-loves was a prolific farter - if we'd had a bedroom with 60 air changes an hour we might still have been together today.

lol ^

It's all very interesting, but how practical it will be, time will tell. The speed of it all is what I'm concerned about...erecting something so quickly, will it be safe, and for how long? Home construction in the southeast however, goes up pretty quickly as it is, as the demand for prime land and real estate soars. Just seems like we have a long way to go with automation technology (a house is more than its frame) before building en masse like this, but it's kind of cool where we're heading.
