Oh geez, those can kick like they're practicing martial arts in there. Especially can't get them out soon enough.

That kicking was her major complaint coming down the stretch. From Ultrasound they were expecting big baby but this one was a bit more than she ever dreamed of. Said it was the easiest C section she'd had out of three in her experience. She might be coming home today. I don't think hospitals want healthy people hanging around too long these days.

Would that be genetics? Not hers but the biological parents. Is it just a random thing a body does, some evolutionary difference (mutation?) that's testing human survival, in that it just might take hold? Always wonder about those things.

Just being over the age of 35 can be a contributor, as well as having had multiple babies before.

Other factors are maternal obesity developing in the course of the pregnancy or acquiring such beforehand -- and having unmanaged high blood sugar during pregnancy (type II diabetes).

Some people may indeed be genetically predisposed to producing cases of fetal macrosomia (whether the donors or the surrogate birth-mother). A family history of large babies is an indicator, of course.

Babies with Sotos syndrome and Beckwith–Wiedemann syndrome will tend to be born large, but that's when something is wrong -- a mutation, not applicable to healthy babies.

She's 39, not obese, both her own kids were smaller babies and as they grow appear to be petite or slim having next to no body fat. Not sure about her blood pressure but many trips to hospital, doctors offices and clinics where they presumably checked everything. Just glad its done, big or small baby. Thanks for all you info. Ill casually mention some of it to her over the next few years...lol

I'd just attribute it to being over 35, potentially along with the nature of the genetic parents. There's an upward trend in macrosomia, maybe because so much childbirth is being deferred to later in life (and there's the pervasiveness of diabetic conditions arising in young people, too, with excessive carbohydrate consumption).

I'm not a parent but I think if I were I'd just be:

Daughter is OK.Daughter is OK.Daughter is OK.Daughter is OK.Daughter is OK.Daughter is OK.

Baby OK is good.
Parents happy is good.

Daughter is OK.
^^ that would be what counts for me.

Not sure if you’re being critical of me here. If so then give me a break C2. I think it was also important for my daughter’s well-being that the baby made it to term and no problems with delivery. I merely ask questions after the fact because this a science forum, or so advertised.

I'm sorry what I posted obviously came out badly.
Please forgive/forget/ignore as there was no ill intent.

Thanks. That's what I figured but "I just gots to know". She & baby are heading to their respective homes today, hopefully. Turns out a family member on my SIL's side delivered food to the room only to find out later in day he had covid. He never entered, wore a mask, didn't stay long & just handed the care package to his brother. I think some covid tests are being performed on all who were present. If they go home then all clear I assume. This thing's just full of drama. Might even make a good sitcom, The Surrogate Kid, everything from conception to the kid growing up.  Smile
