EXCERPT: [...] Some people find the absence of objective meaning in their lives disheartening and even frightening; I find it liberating. [...] The lack of existence of any objective meaning does not preclude the existence of all meaning. We have and will continue to have subjective meaning in our lives.

Because we have no rigid path that we are required take in life, we have the freedom to carve our own unique path. It means that we get decide what is important to us. We get to choose the direction of our lives. We are the ones that give value to our own lives. There is no higher power, no overarching plan dictating our every move. The meaning of life is whatever we make it and that freedom to decide what we want our lives to mean....

I think that if life is invested with meaning by ourselves, it becomes a matter of semantics to say whether it HAS meaning or not. I mean we're talking about a process that occurs at such a deep level of our psyche, much like say color and shape and texture is projected upon the surfaces of our enviroment, that it becomes just as true to say that the meaning is real and objective as to say it is constructed and subjective. And just as I cannot help but experience my world as a colorful procession of textured shapes, so too does my world happen as a meaning-generating story that immediately involves me and my presence within it. Even one assumed to be without meaning, adrift and lost in a universe of random mishaps, is a tragic drama of heroic significance. We become the one who must survive this plight. Who must struggle and overcome the chance dispensations of a nihilisitic universe. We cannot BUT transmute the raw data of experience into a human saga of hope and transcendence. It is what humans do, to spin threads of gold from the straw of capricious circumstance.

The 'meaning of life' has never been a very meaningful issue to me. It doesn't bother me a whole lot.

I guess that I've never really expected life to have an objective meaning that's given from above, so to speak.

Right. There's many directions that a human life might take. It's hard to say which one is best. I like the idea that humanity kind of expands like a fractal, exploring and perhaps ultimately filling that possibility-space.

However one might imagine somebody living their life, there's probably somebody out there already doing it.
