Trump attacks Pope and posts picture of himself as Jesus all in one day

You're kidding? Trump's base is composed largely of evangelical Christians and conservative Catholics. And this will likely be all reflected come November.

Here's a reporter asking Trump why he attacked the Pope. Trump's response? An outright lie that he said he wanted Iran to have a nuclear weapon. When you make up shit just to justify your lambasting of someone, it's pretty good evidence you had no good reason at all for doing so.

I think that at least two serious points can be made.

The Democrats obviously hope that this controversy, largely of the their own making, can be used to split MAGA by prying conservative Christians away from the insufficiently devout Trump. They hope that somehow conservative Christians can be induced to embrace open borders, anti-patriotism, race and "gender" divisiveness, men pretending to be women and vice-versa, sordid crime-ridden city streets, higher taxation, rampant welfare state fraud, endless "green" boondoggles, one-party control of media, education and government... and the left's rampant atheism... just because President Trump doesn't fit the left's own stereotype of a religious bigot.

Yeah right, that's gonna work.

And secondly, this stuff illustrates how today's excessively moralistic politics is largely coming from the left. Who are the ones who are always condemning the morality of their opponents: 'racist!', ''bigot!', 'misogynist!', 'homophobe!', 'transphobe!', 'xenophobe!', 'fascist!'. It's a whole litany of moral insults and fire-and-brimstone condemnations. Just about every political policy that they advocate for is justified by moral arguments of one kind or another. All implying that anyone who opposes their agendas isn't just mistaken, but flat-out evil.

It's another illustration of how President Trump has flipped the American political script. The Democrats are now the party of the ruling government/media/education elites, while the Republicans are the party of the People. The Democrats are the tightly-wound intolerant party calling down moral judgments while Trump is having fun poking them with a stick.

That sums up the matter nicely. IOW conservative Christians sold out their morals and convictions just to get their political agenda enforced. These aren't spiritual people with the spirit and love of Jesus in their hearts. They are cheap whores selling their souls for the quick fixes they imagine Trump can provide. Quick fixes to problems not going away any time soon. It confirms everything I have observed about the religious right. It is truly an anti-spirituality, driven by materialism and phobias and hate and bigotry. Thankfully there's only 1 and a half years left of Trump. Will Vance take up the torch for them? We'll see..But as always after a red shift in the vote, there will follow a blue shift of the nation. We'll see who the democrats can come up with this time.

No, conservatives accepted a flawed vessel for the greatest number of their moral and policy priorities. You don't sell your soul over using a flawed tool. In Trump's case, many of his perceived flaws have actually been assets. The egotistical bull in a China shop mentality has proven the only way to accomplish many of conservatives most valued goals. So like King David, the flawed man can still be a great man, when doing good.

I have my doubts of Vance. I'd prefer Rubio so far. At least between two guys with no executive experience, Rubio has proven he knows how to get things done.
