There's a ray of hope in that regard.

Much of the population growth in booming Florida is transplanted New Yorkers. When it isn't being Havana North, Miami often seems like New York City South. (Or little Canada, since half of Toronto is down there during the Winter, but they usually return home.) The New Yorkers have uprooted themselves and moved in to stay.

Was that southward migration accompanied by Florida veering left? Not a bit.
