Ghosts of the Living: The Strange Experiences of W.T. Stead

Intriguing historical account of a rather extraordinary phenomenon.

"In Miss Estelle Stead’s book, entitled “My Father,” there is a chapter telling of some very remarkable cases of “doubles,” or ghosts, of living people. Miss Stead quotes her father, from an account of his experiences written some time ago, as follows:

Historical accounts of dopplegangers (etheric body doubles)

"Doppelgangers vs. Bilocation

Body doubles, as a paranormal phenomenon, typically manifest themselves in one of two ways.

A doppelganger is a shadow self that is thought to accompany every person. Traditionally, it is said that only the owner of the doppelganger can see this phantom self and that it can be a harbinger of death. A person's friends or family can sometimes see a doppelganger as well. The word is derived from the German term for "double walker."

Bilocation is the psychic ability to project an image of the self in a second location. This body double, known as a wraith, is indistinguishable from the real person and can interact with others just as the real person would.

Ancient Egyptian and Norse mythology both contain references to body doubles. But doppelgangers as a phenomenon, often associated with bad omens, first became popular in the mid-19th century as part of a general surge in the U.S. and Europe in interest in the paranormal."

I came up with a theoretical conclusion for how a Doppelganger could occur some years ago, however I wouldn't suggest anyone attempt it (should it be possible) without truly considering the consequences before hand.

The theoretical anecdote is this.

A scientist works on an experiment involving multiworlds, where an outcome to their experiment creates one of two results. The first result being the result they are looking for which means their after action write up is plain sailing. The other result is a failure which means the right up takes more or less time. (it matters not which).

One outcome expedites them to leave work early, while the other holds them back a little while longer. (if you've not noticed the experimenter is now in a two world state)

The one that leaves a little later gets stuck in evening traffic, and then has to wait for a train to pass (furthering the time dialation between the two universes).

The scientist needs fuel, so he goes to the fuel station. The earlier universe gets there and fills up, pays and is on his way off home when I start to walk passed. They wave at me as they pull off... and I continue to walk passed the fuel station. As I turn around to cross a little further, I then notice the same person in the same car pulling into the fuel station waving at me. In essence one of those instances to me is a doppleganger (or at the very least an instance of Déjà vu).

If you haven't of guessed, I would be in a single universe (multiworlds state) which means I would see both version due to my position not having been shift.

The scientist gets home in both universes, eats their dinner, goes to bed and promptly wakes at 8pm to their alarm to go to work again. At this point the two universes are near enough back in syncronisation as the only difference then is the outcome of the write up the scientist wrote.

For what it’s worth, another opinion.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndrome...ve_doubles

Delusional misidentification syndrome takes many forms. My internet doppelgänger has turned up on other discussion forums and usually uses a bastardized form of the Z Man as a Username. Isn’t that right Zinj II ?

I like it! A brief unstitching in the vast cosmic fabric as it were...

Quote:This syndrome is often diagnosed during or after the onset of another mental disorder, such as schizophrenia or other disorders involving psychotic hallucinations.

Well that certainly rules out the eyewitnesses in the posted accounts. Except maybe for Guy de Maupassant, who had syphilis.

Wonder why some smart defence lawyer hasn’t used a doppelgänger to seed doubt in a client’s court case/trial? How would you know if it wasn’t Trump’s double that was shot at or if it was the shooter’s doppelgänger on the roof? Can a doppelgänger permanently take a person’s place? Or would that be called mental illness?

What if doppelgängers were responsible for every evil act in the world? They are our evil ghostlike twins so technically we’re all really nice people here. Evil twins or simply a mental disorder?
