Parnia: You know you're dead because the brain keeps functioning

EXCERPT: Death just became even more scary ... Dr Sam Parnia is studying consciousness after death and examining cardiac arrest cases in Europe and the US. He said anecdotal evidence has found that people in the first phase of death may still experience some form of consciousness. The expert told LiveScience that people who have survived cardiac arrest later accurately described what was happening around them after their hearts stopped beating. [...] Cardiac arrest survivors were aware of what was going on around them while they were 'dead' - including [...] hearing conversations - before being 'brought back to life', the study revealed. It means that a person may even hear their time of death being announced by medics as they are essentially 'trapped' inside their body with brain function. (MORE)

When I turn off my Skilsaw the blade keeps turning (safety off), slowing down before stopping altogether.

Has anybody ever checked to see if a computer continues to compute once plug is pulled. Even if for only milliseconds.

Edit: just in .... https://amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/587329/

Funnily enough one paper written by a security researcher to my knowledge was on the subject of getting information from the RAM after a computer had shutdown. It was proven that if they froze the RAM, it would increase the duration of time that it takes for the residual energy to dissipate meaning the information was still retrievable even when off.

Hypothetically (or Hypothermically?) it might be possible to do the same on death, namely extending the time it takes for energy to dissipate by cooling the person. (It makes you wonder about what thoughts are going through the heads of those at the morgue.)

Maybe those folks who’ve had their bodies placed in cold storage (cryogenics) shortly after death weren’t as crazy after all. Thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Internet is an amazing and humbling place. Isn’t much you can think of or do that someone else hasn’t tried already. Kudos to anyone with an original idea. The fewer the pages found, the more original the idea.... seems to be the law of internet searching. Zero pages means your idea is new or that you can expect a visit from homeland security Big Grin

If the brain is still functioning, why would the doctors pronounce the patient ''dead?''

I wish I didn't read that ^^

As one of my concerns with death, maybe my only concern, is being cognizant of it. Even if it's just a few minutes. Sad

The revived activity in pig zombie brains probably qualifies for even less consciousness than the ambulating corpses in The Walking Dead. So Parnia's speculations are the worse we'd have to worry about, which might only be seconds at best. Even with the latter, it's probably very rare to hear what's transpiring externally or to feel anything. Usually it'd be a comatose or dreamlike state completely shut-off in its own world, which includes hallucinatory afterlife trips never reported due to the person staying dead.
