Religion News - Japanese Naked Man Festival |
The Japanese have just celebrated their 500 year old annual Naked Man Festival, where some 10,000 men, naked except for sumo-style loincloths, try to cram into a temple to catch little wooden sticks thrown into the crowd that are supposed to bring good luck. It's not for the faint of heart. Temperatures can be below freezing and they say that it can get violent as the men fight for the sticks. In past years guys have been crushed to death.

They're doing it again! For the 510th time!!
Is this is what it takes for MR to start liking religion again...? (Feb 18, 2019 08:56 PM)Yazata Wrote: They're doing it again! For the 510th time!! Reminiscent of that squirming, orgy heap of male residents in the South Park episode "Goobacks". Goobacks: The mysterious person, who has come from over a thousand years in the future, is looking for work because of the overpopulation and poverty in his time ... Soon enough, large numbers of immigrants begin to come through the [time] portal. The future people are described by CNN as "a hairless, uniform mix of all races" with the same skin color, while their language is a guttural mixture of all world languages; also, the immigrants are referred to as "Goobacks" due to having some kind of goo attached to them after exiting the portal. ... the immigrants are willing to accept jobs for [...low...] pay, the original workers throughout South Park are replaced, thus resulting in massive unemployment throughout the town. ["They took our jobs!"]
How many of those guys grab the wrong baton? If you found a 'lucky stick' there isn't many places to hide it from the competition. If fellow stick seekers have any brains, they'll know where to look.
CC...I remember that episode. Funny as hell. Can’t figure out the significance of the ‘Caution’ sign in the background. Looks like a man, woman and child fleeing an area. Some subtle message here, a metaphor? Has to mean more than just for motorists to watch out for fleeing families. Is that it, if USA isn't careful, immigrants taking low paying jobs or working for less will spark the exodus of the American family/culture?
People risking their lives, risking being trampled over for a wooden stick? Well, I guess we have our version of that here in America. Black Friday at Walmart?

Nice one. Glad I'm not a shopper. I guess there's always Pamplona for a run with the bulls. I used to work with an Italian gal who annually went to Italy to have tomatoes thrown at her at some kind of festival. Then there's those guys with much bigger sticks who ride giant logs down a hillside, but only saw it on documentaries a few times. |
