John Kelly should spill the beans about Trump

[EXCERPT] Dear General John Kelly:

There can be no doubt that when you accepted a position in President Trump's Cabinet, you did so out of a sense of duty. I wonder, though. When did you begin to feel a twinge of doubt? [...] What will you do now? How about this: Tell us the truth. The whole, ugly, unmitigated truth. Tell the American public what it was like working for a man like Donald Trump. Give us your version of the daily presidential potty-training that former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently described during a fundraiser in Houston:

When the president would say, "Here's what I want to do, and here's how I want to do it," and I'd have to say to him, "Well, Mr. President, I understand what you want to do, but you can't do it that way. It violates the law, it violates the treaty, you know." He got really frustrated … I think he grew tired of me being the guy every day who told him he can't do that and let's talk about what he can do. [Tillerson]

Hold that thought. Because I'm sure that Trump's crude response to Tillerson ("dumb as a rock," "lazy as hell") is crossing your mind. Maybe you're thinking, wouldn't it just be easier to leave on relatively decent terms? I'm still a decorated general officer. I tried my best to wade through the "cesspool of domestic politics." The president still refers to me as a "great guy." Why not leave it that?

The thing is, your reputation is already, alas, besmirched....

I'm just going to start calling posts like this out for exactly what they are. Leftist fantasy porn. Could it come true? Sure. Could it even be everything they hope it would? Maybe. But this is just another tedious attack on Trump, this time with a thin veneer of concern trolling...as if any leftist gives a crap what happens to any Republican, much less any former Trump cabinet member, aside from serving their own agenda.

And I have a pretty low opinion of anyone who propagates this kind of trash.

All you ever do is bitch and whine about some evil leftist conspiracy that is supposed to be behind news articles. This is nothing new at all. Just keep bitching.

LOL! I don't think CC is worried about your opinion of her.

There's no conspiracy necessary for a bunch of vile and ignorant people to be vile and ignorant. It's their nature.

And this isn't a "news article". It's a fantasy opinion, and as such, again, no conspiracy is necessary nor even possible.
It has nothing to do with Law & Ethics, except insofar as it is suborning the unethical behavior of betraying someone's trust.

Especially here, of all places, it's amazing that anyone should care about crotchetiness (even though there's been newcomers or passerbys who arguably do get perturbed by whatever drama impinges upon them, and take off).

With respect to those like Sciforms, that are confused and ambiguous about their role / purpose... They suffer intermittent spasms of being hyper fuddy-duddy, overly serious, recreation-less "no fun" zones. One theory is that there might be a higher percentage of the autism spectrum applicable to their memberships (compared to other sites). But I don't fully buy that -- such might possibly contribute to the high rate of sarcasm impairment, the laconic-wit or facetious-related overhead whooshes, etc. But not the stuffed shirt posturings.

Since "casual" is overtly stamped on Scivillage, it's got even less claim than those conventional boards to pretentiously flirting as "student or study workshops" while the latter still engage in their usual raucous stuff and flame warrior affairs.

Yet there is that one physics forum that is consistently upfront about being such -- no vagueness there about its identity / function. And whatever few moderated groups might still be alive on Usenet won't even post a message until it has been read / approved by a mod (time-delayed). But again, those fall under the type that make it officially clear that they are institutional-like environments rather than neighborhood barbecues, discussion lounge rooms, sports playgrounds, tea-party gatherings, etc.

The writer seems to be using this weird little literary device of a fake letter to General Kelly to express the writer's own hatred for the President. (I doubt if Kelly has ever heard of this publication or this writer.)

Quote:And I have a pretty low opinion of anyone who propagates this kind of trash.

I couldn't agree more.

It's certainly not news. There wasn't a single new fact there that nobody knew or item of information. And unlike so much "journalism" these days, it wasn't even trying to spin events by telling people what to think, hoping to steer their views about news events and hopefully their votes. It was just some sophomoric writer wanking off, masturbating at his keyboard. Fine, he hates Trump. That's obvious. But why is that supposed to be important or even interesting? How is it supposed to be informative, thought-provoking or persuasive? Doesn't The Week have editors and editorial standards?

I wasn't familiar with this publication, apparently it's some originally-British political opinion magazine that now has an American edition. It seems to have begun on the "right", reportedly as a spin-off of the Telegraph, but from the looks of it it's rabidly anti-Trump. That reminds me of the Weekly Standard, which is going out of business after alienating most of its readers and seeing its subscriptions fall off a cliff. Though to the Weekly Standard's credit, it maintained a much higher editorial standard than this. Its target audience seems to have been conservative intellectuals inside the Beltway, the think-tank denizens. Its founder Bill Kristol is a Harvard educated PhD. But however haughty and elite its editors and writers pictured themselves, it wasn't a big enough audience to support a weekly mass-market magazine. And it wasn't likely to attract rank-and-file voters or win elections either.

One wonders what kind of readership The Week is trying to appeal to by publishing something like this fake letter. One wonders who the author, ostensible "conservative" Scott Galupo, thought he was addressing.

It looks to me like the old-style establishment "conservatism" of people like Theresa May or the Bush dynasty has been left behind by events and has lost whatever popular base it might once have had. The 2016 US election, the Brexit vote, the rise of Salvini in Italy, Orban in Hungary, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bulgaria, the Yellow Vests' anti-Macron riots in France, the slow-motion resignation of Angela Merkel in Germany, the election of Bolsanaro in Brazil, are all pixels that together make up a larger picture. One can't understand contemporary world politics without understanding the forces at work here.

Perhaps Scott Galupo should be masturbating less and paying more attention to what's happening around him. He'd be a much better writer if he did.

Wow, the author "was also an aide to Rep. John Boehner".

That makes sense, seeing how Boehner was one of the first of the GOP establishment given the boot. So this guy is butthurt over the loss of moderate Republican power....apparently ignorant of the left's radicalization that made that an impossibility. With McCain gone and Flake retiring (none too soon), the Senate purge only seems to lack an Alaska and a Maine Senator.
