Why were the pyramids of Egypt built?

Do you still believe that the pyramids of ancient Egypt were tombs?
Would it surprise you to realize that very few active theorists in this field accept this?
But!
There is little or no consensus as to what they were built for.
Here are my thoughts on the matter:

What do you think?

I think that the Dendera light looks like fallopian tubes.

The pyramids were more likely created to keep the Egyptian populous focused. While they were being built, anyone and everyone could have a job. They could learn a trade from being taught how to build and doing a trade could then be taxed. (You can't tax poverty) They would be paid for the work through rations (collected from taxation), of food and beer (and possibly other types). While Egypt was busy with such ventures it kept them from warfare or dissidency, along with the myriad of religious days for the various gods in their polytheism religion.

As for the hieroglyphs, it would be difficult to tell their actual meaning (and even if the pictured ones were authentic and not just someone buying into the stargate universe) although online sources suggest it's suppose to be a symbol of fertility for the city in which it's built. I'm pretty sure if they were lights and used electric, it would of been referred to in the hieroglyphs at least by suggesting that "Ra's light shines" or some such. I can't see anything resembling light there.
