No shame in being depressed. Nothing immoral about it at all in fact. It's just a passing mood. In fact I rarely get depressed at all anymore. Does that disappoint you you pathetic moralizing prig?

I never said there was anything shameful or immoral about being depressed, and less frequent depression is an unqualifiedly good thing. Again, this may be your projection at work.

You're the one who turned this into an ad hom attack on me. I was talking about religion and you started saying how I'm naive and self-loathing and now depressed. What is wrong with you? Every fuckin time you make this personal about me. Are you incapable of discussing a topic like a mature adult without insults and slurs?

No, I only said you had a naive understanding of religion (AFTER you insulted all religious people with ad hominems like selfish, greedy, shameful, guilt-ridden, groveling, and repressed): https://www.scivillage.com/thread-6226-p...l#pid23831
You could have actually tried to argue/demonstrate otherwise, but instead YOU are the one who started the ad hominem about "self-hate": https://www.scivillage.com/thread-6226-p...l#pid23836
As usual, you are the one to start the ad hominems and then get butt-hurt when you are repaid in kind. No wonder you don't understand religion. You don't even seem to understand some its most basic precepts, like the Golden Rule (where here you've clearly demonstrated doing to others what you don't like to have done to you...hence all the whining).

Which brings us back to projection, where you initiate the behavior you rail against. This is an undeniable pattern with you. Just because you can fool yourself into thinking that insulting religious people somehow isn't an insult of religious individuals doesn't change the fact that you always start what you end up whining about. You're a sanctimonious hypocrite...so you only seem to have learned all the worst lessons from your naive caricature of religion.

My morals have been battle tested several times. Nothing stressful about two battles with cancer Wink . Call it resilient if you want. Don't worry, my religious friends prayed like hell for me....so it must have worked, eh?

What is the moral dilemma in getting cancer? Did you have a choice of harming some else so you could survive? O_o
We're talking morals here (doing what is right in the face of serious pressure or temptation to do otherwise), not a belief in god or religion.

It's not ad homing to critique religion or any institution for what it does to people. It'd be the same if I was critiquing Nazism. Ad homs otoh are personal attacks on a particular person in a debate in order to "poison the well" and invalidate what he is saying. And that's exactly what you have done.

Quote:Which brings us back to projection

Saying people are projecting is just your ignorant ad hom when you have no argument to make. I was a firm believer in religion for many years. I know from direct experience exactly what it teaches and it's effect on the human psyche.

Quote:You're a sanctimonious hypocrite

More hostile ad homing. A clear indication that you are losing the argument and have no legitimate counterargument to make.

It's not ad homing to critique religion or any institution.
It is ad hominem if you only repeat bare assertions without justification. You just keep proclaiming these ad hominems true without ever arguing why any specific one must be or refuting any counterargument given (which you arduously ignore/refuse to even quote).

No, your projection is demonstrated quite clearly, in the examples and for the reasons I detailed. Even now you can't bring yourself to engage with the arguments I've given (selectively quoting my post to leave them out), likely due to overwhelming cognitive dissonance.

You were a "firm believer" as a child. Or are you claiming you have not developed intellectually since then? O_o
As an adult, you only seem to have reinforced your desire to rebel against your childhood beliefs, instead of developing a more mature view of religion than a raging atheist simpleton.

If you have actual arguments, make them already. If not, your bare assertions are ad hominems and your demonstrated behavior is projection.

No, just an observation based on your clearly demonstrated behavior. You are literally being sanctimonious about ad hominems, all the while spewing them freely.
You've ignored all counterarguments. Rolleyes

No...critiquing religion for what it does to people is not ad homing anybody. It's just critiquing religion--a vast impersonal system of delusions and rituals designed to make people more dependent and weaker.

Another ad hom. So now I'm a child intellectually.

I was a firm believer till the age of 19. That's plenty of time to understand what religion is and does to people who believe in it.'

Just quit ad homing and making it personal. I'm not projecting. I'm not ad homing. I'm speaking from personal experience. Something you evidently lack.

Well in that case, as I've already mentioned, my morals are fine.

Bare assertions are not a critique. A critique includes justified reasoning. See, even here you are simply making proclamations without any argument to support it at all.

Did you really miss the question mark there? O_o
Or are you that afraid it may be true? Rolleyes

No, on average the human brain does not become that of an adult until around age 25. You don't even seem to be able to articulate any reason for people to agree with what you think about religion. You just keep making proclamations.

Just as soon as you manage to start engaging the arguments made, instead of ignoring them and refusing to even quote them, and actually making some arguments of your own, instead of just repeated bare assertions and ad hominems, I'll be more than happy to have a real discussion. But you don't seem capable of that, so I give you exactly what you dish out. Quit dishing it out or quit whining about.

Or just continue to be the hypocrite we all know you are. Rolleyes

Oops. And yet another ad hom against the person that I am. You really can't stop ad homing can you? When you run out of arguments against my own direct personal experience, this is the last desperate ploy you make. How pathetic.

Since you started the ad hominems, the burden is yours to demonstrate you can actually carry on an adult discussion. You know, one that includes actual arguments for criticism. And no, demonstrable observations of your behavior, fully justified and spelled out in previous posts, are not ad hominems. They are criticisms you are welcome to refute or actually engage with...instead of this continual whining about and ignoring all arguments made.

But just continue to proclaim your holiness. I guess that does something for you. Rolleyes
