Most this is old news. Like the new Starbucks sippy lids containing more plastic than the original straw and lid combined.

The press release was in June. That's not too old. Oh, wait, it was July.

Another off topic post.

And way, way, way more moral. They are the Saved, I am a Sinner. That's why I refer to the present age as neopuritan.

They love to paint their opponents with the repressive and judgmental 'church-lady' stereotype, but in today's age the people constantly wagging fingers in other people's faces, faces contorted in hate at they shriek "Evil! Evil! Evil!", are the self-styled "tolerant" ones.

Except today 'evil' isn't old-style sins like blasphemy or heresy or being a heathen, it's a whole host of new post-1960's political sins like "racist!" and "bigot!" and (increasingly) "denier!". But in every case, the accusation is equally a moral accusation.

Quote:They are woke. You are not.

They are awakened to social injustice (real or imagined). They are aroused to action, joining in the holy cause to fight social injustice wherever they perceive it.

Quote:This has consequences, mostly for you.

If you are on the receiving end of all that passion, you are morally evil simply by definition in their righteous minds. You don't need to be given a say or be listened to, you just need to be converted, silenced or eliminated. People sense that intensity and it scares them, and it's a big unspoken part of contemporary politics at the moment. Not just in the last election in the US, but in much of Europe too.

Quote:For do-gooders, the ends justify the means.

Just as they did for Hitler and for the Marxists. They were equally convinced of the moral superiority of their causes. That self-righteousness got to the point where it could justify any outrage. After all, if your opponents are "fascists" (in your mind anyway) then brown-shirt-style 'antifa' trying to silence them by violence becomes a righteous act.

Quote:Do-gooders believe they are saving the world, therefore any tactic is completely defensible. Anyone who stands in the way of their planet-saving mission is, by definition, evil and must be punished. Usually touted as progressivism, this cult-like ideology is actually regressive. Yet, it has succeeded at racking up political victories across the country.

The Marxists associated their ideology with the enlightenment's idea of progress, so that anyone who opposed their relentless march to the left and mourned the many victims that march left behind, became a 'reactionary' opposed to the unfolding of time itself. Opposition to Marx was reinterpreted as the desire to return to the past.

So the whole idea of change over time became a one-dimensional line, with one direction labeled 'future' and associated with 'progress', with 'good', and with left ideology. The other direction was labeled 'past' and associated with 'bad' and with 'conservative' ideology. Time itself became a passage from evil towards good, towards knowledge from obscurantism.

All based on a bad metaphysical model in my opinion. One that ignores that the future might hold many different possibilities and can unfold many different ways. (Not all of them desirable.) I'm inclined to imagine history like a tree, with its trunk in the pastward direction and relatively fixed (what happened, happened), with possible timelines in the future direction multiplying like branches on a bush, indicating the different things that can happen and the different ways that history might evolve if they do happen that way. (No, I'm not a determinist.)

Quote:Judging from their behavior, diversity is far less of a concern for Millennials than is ideological conformity.

Certainly not diversity of opinion. After all, if one kind of opinion is identfied with good and anything that deviates with evil, why would they want to compromise with evil?

It's called the natural course of conversation. Get over yourself.
