INTRO: The two German Shepherds belonging to President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were returned to the Biden family home in Delaware last week after aggressive behavior at the White House involving Major Biden, two sources with knowledge tell CNN. Major, who was adopted by Biden in November 2018 from a Delaware animal shelter, had what one of the people described as a "biting incident" with a member of White House security. The exact condition of the victim is unknown, however, the episode was serious enough that the dogs were subsequently moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where they remain.

On Tuesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed Major caused an injury to an unnamed individual. "[Champ and Major] are still getting acclimated and accustomed to their surroundings and new people. And on Monday, the first family's younger dog, Major, was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual," said Psaki, who added the injury was handled by the White House medical unit.

The person bitten by Major was a United States Secret Service agent, according to a Secret Service official. Major, who is 3 years old, is the younger of the two Biden dogs, and has been known to display agitated behavior on multiple occasions, including jumping, barking, and "charging" at staff and security, according to the people CNN spoke with about the dog's demeanor at the White House. The older of Biden's German Shepherds, Champ, is approximately 13 and has slowed down physically due to his advanced age... (MORE)

Never been a dog guy. Only dogs I really like are those African Hunting Dogs. I hope the Biden dogs aren't crapping in the WH. Joe probably has more than enough incontinence to go around. Imagine walking in WH and seeing newspaper on the floor, maybe even soiled, and the smell.

Poor secret service guy can't even sue, can he? He wouldn't be too secret if he did. Hopefully he made a dog bite report and got a tetanus shot. Hope the dog is in quarantine until cleared. The agent might as well take some down time. How will they write up that Health & Safety accident....could it have been prevented?

What kind of doggie name is Major? Major pain in the ass, which may refer to the bitten area also. Is pooch named after a Southern Celestial Hemisphere constellation (Canis Major). Latin for 'greater dog'. Thats what the SS guy heard and saw : Gr & Eater so name fits.

I suspect a dog keeps its name when you adopt it otherwise Where am I? Who am i? Do I even exist?

My brother has adopted several German Shepherds from animal rescue shelters. One was sweet, mild tempered and eager to please, but another of them was a certifiable canine psycho. The current one is kind of in between.

Rescue dogs have sometimes been traumatized at young and impressionable ages and can be unpredictable. Their psychologies seem to often be dominated by fear and insecurity, so they are prone to behaving defensively in exaggerated ways. Little rescue dogs might just be yappers, but big ones can be dangerous. Sometimes they are the kind of dog that previous owners just couldn't deal with.

I had to enter people’s houses as part of a job I had when younger. One day a dog clamped onto my right calf puncturing the skin and drawing blood. Beautiful expensive dog, I think called a Chow, with a big mane. The female owner was just moving in at the time and perhaps the mutt was agitated enough to bite. Anyways I had to go to hospital, get tetanus shot and make out dog report. Meanwhile the mutt was quarantined. Got a phone call later on saying I was in the clear for rabies and the biter was going home. About two months later I ran into the owner and asked her how the dog was doing. Told me she had to put it down. I asked why since I was told dog was ok. She said the dog hadn’t been home for a day when it took a chunk out of the mailman. She didn’t trust it anymore and that was that. She said the dog had cost her over 2 grand by then. Double that in today’s dollars.

Chows are known to be aggressive, even without any provocation.
