Survey finds 'slutpage' use may be common among U.S. college students

INTRO: Viewing and uploading to so-called slutpages -- mobile apps, websites and email lists that include non-consensual nude or semi-nude pictures of women -- is fairly common among college students in the United States, according to a new survey.

Researchers at Michigan State University surveyed students at a large U.S. university, finding the problem of collecting, viewing and sharing pictures of women without their consent is a growing problem not only with teenagers, but also with college students.

Among participants in the survey, one in three admitted to viewing slutpages. Ten percent of respondents said they had used a secret photo storing app to collect or share nude images. And one in thirty admitted to posting nude images or videos online without the subject's consent.

The survey results, published Wednesday in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, showed younger respondents were the most likely to visit slutpages, compared to older respondents. Male respondents were also more likely to report visiting the sites than female respondents.

"Use of these sites has significant implications for the victims featured on the pages, as previous research indicates that victims of non-consensual pornography distribution experience post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression," study co-author Megan Maas said in a news release... Given that the technology exists and young males are young males - what else would anyone have expected?

Big difference between "non-consensual pornography" and "non-consensual pornography distribution". The former is obviously wrong, but the latter is a potential consequence of consensually sharing or posing for such photos. If it's more the latter, it's just another example of men being expected to mind the best interests of women deemed too stupid to mind their own interests themselves.

Theres an old joke back in the day where you'd ask a guy if he had any pictures of his girlfriend naked. When he said no, you asked him if he wanted to buy some. Always good for a laugh. 

In my life I can't recall ever seeing photos of women who were in the buff that I knew. Had to imagine. Mystery and the unknown were part of the allure back then. 

As if women didn't have enough to worry about. Personally I can't stomach guys who treat women this way, like showing a pic of a prize Hereford. It's saying they're just a commodity/property and here's what you're getting should you decide. Gigantic step backwards in fight for equality. Take these guys to court.

It was a step taken by the sexual revolution and feminism. If a woman consents to be photographed, it's on her. Or...we all admit that women are too emotional to make their own rational choices and men should be protecting them from themselves.

I'm fine with either, so long as we don't blame/prosecute men for a girl's bad decisions. That's just wrong.

I was under the impression there was no consent so my bad. Seems every woman fighting for equality has another one working against it. Didn't watch Golden Globes last night (never have) but my wife did and she was saying to me that whenever a guy won an award he'd accept it from home while dressed very casually (pjs in some cases) but totally opposite for the women who according my wife, looked like they were stepping out onto a movie set. They're probably maintaining an image but what's wrong with pyjamas, hair in curlers and a mudpack on the face?

Yep, sext nude photos to a boyfriend or even allow a husband to take one and there's a pretty good chance the images are going to be circulating "out there" eventually (especially after break-up or divorce). We don't live in the world of "ought" with respect to what religious and Leftarian movements expect people to do with idealized frequency. Driving the espying horndog out of a significant percentage of males is something neither will ever succeed at. Short of genetically engineering or rigid programming of transhuman bodies.

Joss Whedon has been one of the biggest left-fem virtue signalers around for over two decades, and now his dirty underwear is finally receiving public exposure. Notice a Hollywood icon who does a lot of social preaching and bountifully expresses heaps of righteous indignation, and you can bet he's got guilty stuff bound with duct-tape in the basement that he's trying to compensate for or distract attention from.

Speaking of sexting, I bet most of the child pornography that mundane men in their 20s get arrested for stems from the photos sent to them by tween and teen girls when they were that age themselves. They distribute those to friends and acquaintances, building up collections that they hang onto after adulthood. A woman I once worked with has joined the growing Worry Wagon that her grandson is going to get caught. She and the rest can't convince him to delete his i-Crime stash. (Obviously, a 22-year-old is very stealth-adept when even distant third parties have become part of his family's gossip grapevine.)

That article, perhaps intentionally, doesn't seem to make that clear. Like I said, if the photo was without consent, that wrong and should be prosecuted. But once we're talking about the distribution of such photos, they seem to gloss over the original provenance.

Women, actresses or not, are primarily valued for their looks, due to the evolutionary imperative for men to seek signs of health in a mate. Actors at an awards show demonstrate their evolutionary value of being high status providers by just showing up.
