Somebody Else’s Email

#1

Anyone receive emails meant for someone else? Not once or twice but all the time. I keep getting emails for a person who’s email address differs from mine by 1 digit. His has a #1 in there whereas mine doesn’t. I have actually let this guy know. Nice guy, retired engineer and I either forward it to him or reply to the sender to correct mistake next time. But I still get them, including one last night with b-day wishes from an obvious admirer, a member of the opposite sex. Don’t ask how I know this but attachments tell a story Smile. There’s another guy who constantly sends me jokes, which I don’t mind, however today’s political correctness environment would probably see him arrested. Also get a lot of invites to play golf where my email doppelgänger lives. Told him I might go one day. It’s a 4 hr drive but at least the same province. I also get his invites to engineer reunion parties. I’ve tried to fix it, I’ve replied to his friends and he has told them also but the emails keep coming. It’s actually fun.

I did end upon having a whole bunch of emails come through one year. What had happened was I'd signed up to something to do with DNA research, and the University responsible for running it made a mistake with the email software they were using. They'd accidentally rigged up their mass mail software to send any responses to everyone on the mailing list. This meant that first an email occured, then someone replied as if it was a private email. Then someone replied to that reply pointing out they could see and read it to and before you know it for the next 3-4hours people were treating email like a reddit sub.

In the end someone spotted the problem and it even ended up getting reported by the BBC in regards to the mishap.

Notibly most people ended up Unsubscribing after that.
