"Alien has had four movies, two prequels, and two crossover movies with the Predator franchise. It’s had comic books, novels, video games, toys, merchandising, and probably a breakfast cereal or two along the way. But it’s never had a television series — until now.

For the first time Alien is getting the TV treatment, from FX. Announced at Disney’s Investor Day for 2020, the series will be created by Noah Hawley, who knows a thing or two about bringing popular films to the small screen as the creator of FX’s Fargo. The official announcement also mentioned the involvement of Alien and Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott as a producer, and that the show will be the first Alien work that takes place on Earth, rather than deep space. It also described the tone of the series as a blend of Alien and Aliens.

The Alien franchise has been in a holding pattern since 2017’s Alien: Covenant, directed by Scott, and filling in more of the details about the origin of the xenomorphs. There have been various rumors about more prequels and sequels, as there always are, but nothing concrete until this new TV series now in development for FX on Hulu. At this time, no timeline was given for when the show will premiere."

Since Hawley is involved, it might actually be interesting. (Belatedly realize that season 4 of "Fargo" finished at the end of November, so time to binge on that.)

No mention of Ripley, so I guess that won't be a retelling. Female action heroes were literally born in 1979 by the late decision to gender-swap that character.

The "Hildy" switcheroo in His Girl Friday was one of the earliest, but snarky female reporters didn't really spur much. On top of that, Lois Lane preceded trans-Hildy by a couple of years.

Apparently it's not set precisely in the 'Alien' universe where the creatures are encountered in space in a future in which interstellar space travel is routine.

Instead, it takes place on Earth, in the near future. I'm guessing that they are imagining a zombie-apocalypse kind of deal, except with alien monsters instead of zombies.

'Aliens' has always had kind of a 'trapped' plot device, where the protagonists are trapped with a monster on a spaceship, in an extraterrestrial outpost, or wherever. This time they will probably be trapped in a building somewhere, with monsters roaming and killing outside as everything falls apart. I fear that it will end up formulaic.

"He added that the show will combine 'both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the nonstop action of the second,' adding that viewers are in for one heck of an experience that will 'blow people back in their seats.'" --digital trends article

Unlike Hawley's slower-paced "Fargo" or "Legion", sounds like no quirky substance and eccentric sub-plots could even be squeezed into this thing. He's just bringing a stupid "Jurrasic Park" international allure to the smaller screen with xenomorphs instead of dinosaurs. Even "The Walking Dead" apocalypse had more space for character-drama storylines in between the zombie munching.
