A small number of self-organizing autonomous vehicles significantly increases traffic flow
https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/...090120.php

INTRO: With the addition of just a small number of autonomous vehicles (AVs) on the road, traffic flow can become faster, greener, and safer in the near future, a new study suggests. The study, published in Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical, focused on the anticipated hybrid traffic flow of the future, which will combine traditional, human-operated vehicles with a small fraction of AVs. This scenario raises several questions as to whether traffic flow would actually improve and, if so, how many AVs would be required to produce significant change... (MORE)

Report: the future of space tourism
http://www.leonarddavid.com/report-futur...e-tourism/

EXCERPTS: The Congressional Research Service (CRS) has issued The Future of Space Tourism, taking a look at a variety of issues that will shape the promise of public space travel. Diving into the history and development of the space tourism sector, the report spotlights new entrants, such as Virgin Galactic, SpaceX, Blue Origin, and the high-altitude balloon concept offered by Space Perspective. The CRS is a nonpartisan, shared staff to congressional committees and Members of Congress that reviews a host of topics.

[...] Congress has supported the development of voluntary safety standards by industry, interagency working groups, and the aerospace medical community, with the CRS report saying they may want to consider whether the federal government should adopt such standards as regulations. The CRS report ... also looks at medical concerns for spaceflight participants as well as how best to handle accident investigations.
