Hats & Baldness

I wouldn't normally post anything about losing hair from the chrome dome but I noticed something unusual with my hands and fingers the other day that made me pause for thought. Yep, I'm slowly going bald as I age, not completely, but very thin on top. Doesn't bother me, i accept it.

Yet the other day I was looking at the only piece of jewellery I wear. There's a gold ring on my left hand finger that's about ½" wide, the visible part. Not unusual but what's weird is that under this ½" cap I actually have hair growing. Nowhere else on either of my two hands is hair even evident. The hair on my arms stops where hand meets wrist. Why is there only hair growing under the ring and not anywhere else on my hands. Weird. Made me think, would wearing a hat slow down or eliminate baldness?

It doesn't take long to check if true and by the looks of things , hats have no effect on baldness. More mythology.

Still....why is the only hair on my hands under the ring?

Our skin gets drier as we age. My guess (that's all it is) is that the ring traps moisture and keeps your skin in better condition under the ring.

You may be on to something Yaz. I wear ring when I shower so I imagine the band traps moisture under it and also doesn’t get towelled off.

Could it be that UV light (sunlight) ages the skin - has the ring shaded that bit for many (sunny) years?

Come to think of it, yes. It's the one spot that doesn't get tanned.  Moist skin and no sun seems to maintain the fur. Smile
