Looks like it has more meat added to it than the designs of the '90s?, '80s maybe? Further back than that (surely there weren't any quick traction straps around before the '70s), I guess there wasn't anything available but vastly more time-consuming chains (tedious designs to put on back then, anyway). Chains were more effective, but as far just getting out of mildly stuck situations, too much overkill and headache. (Granting the vehicle could even move enough either way before rolling back to gradually slip and work a whole or partial set of chains around a tire.)
