How Ghosts Work |
Trotting out all the standard skeptic explanations for paranormal phenomena. I've heard all this before. Who should we believe? The guys in armchairs who already know ghosts don't exist and have already decided they're just mistaken physical phenomena? Or the guys who spend countless hours on investigations all night in alleged haunted locations catching evidence and experiencing actual events. Think I'll go with the latter.

Setting aside the deliberate frauds and pranksters professing to be believers, essentially a "ghost-o-phile" is conceiving what s/he senses with a completely different set of background theories than what the militant skeptic uses to interpret her/his perceptions with. Figuratively its kind of like two rival decoder plugins distributed arbitrarily across the population, one or the other installed in the applicable individuals. Of course, the majority of people arguably aren't fitted with either -- or some jumbled, hybrid version of the two maybe.
Speaking of ghosts, the new Ghosthunters starts in August. Looks pretty good!

In what form, and why, not sure. But, what I happen to like about this article is that at least it offers a thorough perspective from a skeptic's mind. Often times, when you have posted paranormal videos and claims, it's met with immediate distrust of the source, and/or just dismissed without any reasons on the part of the skeptics. Do you find though, that there's any truth from this article? (Jul 23, 2019 06:29 AM)C C Wrote:You're so right, CC. Both ''sides'' for lack of a better word, are coming to the table with their own ideas. Unfortunately, skeptics seem to dismiss most claims of the paranormal/supernatural kinds, because they are materialists. Anything that doesn't have material evidence, is usually tossed aside.(Jul 23, 2019 05:54 AM)Leigha Wrote: Worth the read, I promise. If I end up watching it, I'll keep a pillow in front of my face, and peek out to see what's going on. Ever do that whilst watching scary movies? lol In other news, I can't locate the USB cord that came with my EVP recorder so now I can't see the frequency levels on my laptop. Bummer. I'm not a very efficient ghost hunter. Quote:Do you find though, that there's any truth from this article? I find that the good paranormal investigators typically eliminate these physical causes as a matter of standard practice. Baseline readings of EMF are taken of the location beforehand. And the really good investigations evidence sensations of the investigators with audio and video evidence. There's just too many things I've seen on investigations that cannot be dismissed as physically caused. Footsteps on the upper floor in empty bldgs. Bangs and knocks. Voices and moans and even singing heard AND recorded. Scratch marks and pushings of investigators. Glowing orbs and mists and moving shadows. Objects moving by themselves. But then I've seen most investigations on TV. Never been to one myself. Quote:Ever do that whilst watching scary movies? No, but I left the light on all night in my bedroom after I saw the Amityville Horror. (Jul 23, 2019 06:20 PM)Magical Realist Wrote:Quote:Do you find though, that there's any truth from this article? Wherever there is skepticism, so too lies belief. Even just a glimmer of hope that something lurks beneath the surface. I don't believe all accounts, or even most, but some, I tend to give credence to. I think it depends on ''who'' the eye witness is. Celebs have really nothing to gain, and their ''image'' to lose, by coming forward with their stories, so those seem authentic. I still think about ''The Ring.'' I watched it like ten years ago, and it scared the shit out of me. lol The premise is absurd, but the grey lighting throughout the film, the creepy music, the ''ring girl'' ...it all just got under my skin, and made me frightened for like a week.
If ghosts exists and people realize there’s an afterlife, even if it’s only as a wispy puff of smoke, then why do people consider it spooky to the point where fear overtakes them? You’d think everyone would be rejoicing.
