Why are the oceans salty when...

It must be comforting to have people to just agree with you, so you can avoid dealing with things you don't want to think about/examine...like empathy for serial killers.

Comforting? No, but I do enjoy their clever minds. Yours...not so much.

I’m not the only one that’s noticed films that steered us in that direction. They give us a chance to see things from their perspective, but like the film producer, Scott Myers said, "Those characters have to be compelling, have a legitimate rationale for why they do what they do, and have some identifiable human qualities with which we can relate."

It’s not just with fiction, though. Take Aileen Wuornos, for example. She requested that "Carnival" by Natalie Merchant be played at her services. Natalie displayed empathy for her by permitting it.

She said, "Aileen Wuornos led a tortured, torturing life that is beyond my worst nightmares. It wasn't until I was told that Aileen spent many hours listening to my album Tigerlily while on death row and requested "Carnival" be played at her funeral that I gave permission for the use of the song. It's very odd to think of the places my music can go once it leaves my hands. If it gave her some solace, I have to be grateful."

But according to the life of Syne, [If you can square rooting for an immoral killer, you can probably manage to square advocating many other horrid things.] she has been an advocate for horrid things. OMG! She’s a vegetarian and an outspoken critic of trump. Off with her head!

'Forgiveness requires a sense that bad behaviour is a sign of suffering rather than malice.'—Alain de Botton

And yes, Syne, many people—even victims, and families of victims have found a way to empathize and forgive their perpetrators.

Well, according to Wikipedia he punished her for disobeying the angels' warning. By looking back at the "evil cities," she betrayed her secret longing for that way of life. She was deemed unworthy to be saved and thus was turned to a pillar of salt.

I think that's exactly what Syne is trying to imply here.

Geez! He's getting a little salty himself, though, isn't he?  Big Grin

A hollow despair arose when their eyes fell upon the derelict church. "It ain't just lack of a judge, we ain't got no brimstone paladin of the Lord to deliver condemnation and purge wickedness!"

Suddenly, an elongated shadow stretched portentously down the dusty street. A wayworn figure outlined in the crimson demise of the setting sun was approaching on horseback...

Oh, you're good. Bravo!

*A room in a small village of the United States. White walls. A couch. To the right, a window; to the left, a bathroom door. In the background an echo chamber leading to the street. The bell rings.

*La Putain respectueuse answers the door. A little time passes. Shit happens.

He: Cover that!
She: What?
He: Cover the bed. It smells of sin.
She: Sin? How come you talk like that? Are you a preacher?
He: No. Why?
She: You sound like the bible.
He: Cover the bed.
She: All right, all right. I’ll cover it. You seem to be in a bad mood. Tell me your first name. You don’t want to?
He: No.
She: I’ll call you the stranger then.
Stranger: Who hurt you?
She: Why would ask that?
Stranger: Well, you’re the devil, aren’t you? Just look at your behavior and the way that you protect the lowly ones. Why are you protecting them?
She: I’m not protecting them. I just want to tell the truth, that's all.
Stranger: The truth? A devil who wants to tell the truth! There is no truth. There’s only libtards and respectful republicans.
*He pushes her to the ground.
*A confused gentleman enters the room and offers her is hand.
Gentleman: Get up. Let her speak her truth.
Stranger: She’s the devil. She’s aiding in killing millions of unborn children. The females are getting out of hand and chaos will soon engulf the entire world. Men are acting like women. Everything is reversing—the opposite of the way things should be.
She: I’m sorry.
Gentleman: Why should you be sorry, when you have told the truth?
She: I’m sorry that—that that’s the truth.
Stranger: No. She's lying. There are various kinds of truths. Are you a libtard?
She: Good Lord, no!
Stranger: Then Uncle Sam would have many things to tell you. He would say that you have reached a point where you have to choose between the two. What can you do in a case like this? Well, you’d choose the better one, wouldn’t you? Will you?
She: Yes, I want to. My oh my, how fine you talk.
Stranger: Do you suppose that the whole village could be mistaken? A whole village, with its ministers, and priests, chemists, engineers, analysts, artists, and its mayor?
She: No, no, no.
*And then like magic, she sees reality.
Wait! Wait! I’ve changed my opinion. (Something tells me I’ve been had—but good!)
Stranger: The whole village will hate you. You’ll be despised. Is that what you want?
She: No. God, no.
Stranger: There’s only a handful of them and they don’t even appreciate you. Why on earth would you choose to defend them? You are the devil, aren’t you? You’ve bewitched me. What have you done to me? I came running here. I didn’t even know if I wanted to kill you or argue with you. Was it true what you told me?
She: What?
Stranger: That you enjoyed a good fight?
She: Yes, it’s true.
Stranger: Then everything is back to normal again. [A pause] My name is___.

To be continued…

I betcha know where I got that from, dontcha, C C?  Tongue

Nice choice and good reworking, SS. JPS would approve.

Just have to phrase things the right way and let the cognitive impairments do the rest, to get the secret identity to pop-out of the forehead. (Vague reference to some William F. Buckely Jr and Gore Vidal incident? "Only her hairdresser knows for sure.")

His daughters sure assaulted him, anyway (or was the inebriated state just an excuse?). Now we know another source for George R.R. Martin's preoccupation with that sort of stuff in GoT.

Maybe Stryder isn't who he says he is. Maybe he is inventing something, e.g., a Computer Contemplator.

If you're not a writer, C C, then you missed your calling, little Missy.

P.S. Remind me to never play a game of chess with you.  Wink

Nope, not buying it. Far too much triangulation.

Triangulation in the context of narcissistic abuse is the act of bringing another person or a group of people into the dynamic of a relationship or interaction to belittle the victim and make the victim “vie” for the attention of the narcissist.

Yes, the same people who brought you the casting couch trying to make you empathize with horrible people.

I seriously doubt Natalie Merchant was empathizing with Wuornos while she was doing the killing.

Who said people couldn't be forgiven? Project much, little miss grudgy grudge?

You are not the victim nor the family of victims of movie serial killers, deary. But go ahead, show me some legit victims that empathized while the perpetrator was committing the heinous acts.

I've never said anyone was "unworthy to be saved". That's you projecting your own demons, deary.
