People consign themselves to hell, without any action of any deity.

That’s a tough sell for most.

From the BBC account of Weinstein's trial:-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-51621041

Quote:Ms Mann's evidence came at the end of the fourth week of the Manhattan trial of the Oscar-winning Hollywood mogul, who produced films including Shakespeare in Love and The English Patient.

The 34-year-old said she met him in late 2012 or early 2013 at a party, and she told him of her ambition to be an actress. Later, she said, he invited her and a friend to a Los Angeles hotel suite. He then allegedly pulled Ms Mann into a bedroom and performed oral sex on her.

Ms Mann then began a relationship with Mr Weinstein. "I entered into what I thought was going to be a real relationship with him and it was extremely degrading from that point on," she said.

She said he once urinated on her, and in 2013 raped her in a Manhattan hotel room. "If he heard the word 'no,' it was like a trigger for him," she said.

When asked why she stayed in the relationship, Ms Mann said in tears that there was "no short answer".

"One of the aspects initially was that I had had a sexual encounter" with him, she said. "That wasn't something I could undo. That really confused me and hurt me." She stayed with him partly out of fear, she said.

Especially when Jesus himself said this:

Matthew 13:41,42 New International Version (NIV)

41 "The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

I know a 65 year-old rich guy with a 21 year-old girlfriend. Do I have any moral (forget legal) obligation here? She wants what he has and he wants what she has. Same story as me and Mrs C2 but (probably) without the rats and leaky kitchen.

I am reminded of the Beatitudes (if you don't know 'em consult some Bible type person) - no mention of the chronically stupid there. I am also reminded of a primary school teacher that found two children fooling about - she slapped one and shouted at the other "You're just too stupid for words.".
Personally I'm all for a level playing field but sometimes there's just nothing anyone (or the law) can do.

*Of the two children fooling about I'd like to point out that I wasn't either of them but it left a mark.

Notice how Matthew 13 is all about parable.

Verses 41 and 42 aren't part of the parable. They are what the parable represented. They're about what Jesus and his angels are going to do with the sinners when he returns. Which is what? Like 2000 years overdue now?

Do you only see Jesus as an oppressor, MR? I believe his ministry had to do with hope and love, but not everyone will believe he is the way, the truth and the life. He lets everyone make up their own minds, though.

Jesus apparently believed those who rejected him as a Savior deserve to be and would be burned in hell forever. That's not a very moral or mature attitude. It's certainly not an attitude I want to emulate in my own life. Buddha was way cooler! Smile

<gasp> Yet another innocent strayed from a remote pastoral kingdom. Set adrift by misfortune, to be washed artless and vulnerable upon the shores of Hollywood's heathen carnality and debauchery.
