The plane knew it was going to crash, but couldn't override the deranged pilot.

Quote:[...] In the first of what could be a series of security changes in the wake of Tuesday’s crash, European aviation regulators on Thursday took steps to require that two crew members be in the cockpit at all times during flights, as is required in the U.S. [...] Investigators suspect that Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which disappeared a year ago on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was deliberately diverted by someone at the controls. No wreckage has been found, but a strong circumstantial case has been presented for a scenario involving a piloted diversion and crash in the Indian Ocean. [...] At least 12 plane crashes in the past four decades are suspected to have been deliberately caused by pilots or others at the controls, according to the Aviation Safety Network, a group that tracks air incidents.

They have too much thinking time.
What do they do apart from wait for landing?

They might alredy do some of this stuff... but pilots coud have access to meals an a bathroom wit-out leavin the locked cockpit... so once they enter to begin the flight they wont need to exit until they land... that way less chance of a pilot bein harmed by a crazed passenger or crew... an one of the pilots coudnt be locked out of the cockpit by the other pilot.!!!

A small space wit-in the cockpit coud be set up for light exercise for a few minutes each houre on longer flights.!!!

Why don't they just let the bathroom stuff out through a hole?
They used to do that on trains.

When the pilot was about to leave the cockpit he mentioned something about it was time to begin preparations for landing. The copilot said something like, "We'll see." I can only imagine the significance of that comment becoming clear in the pilot's mind as he frantically banged in anguish on the cockpit door.
