The conundrum of why some sites fail

Old discussion mediums as a whole gradually die out. Only some of the aged residents linger around in the ruins, themselves perishing in number.

Most of iGen probably never heard of Usenet. Late Gen-X and Gen-Y deserted those original newsgroups for these web-based forums. Now it's the latter's turn to fade away as newer, shinier objects replace them. Drawing the trend-fixated youth of an era and the tardiest folk who never knew any better, just following to wherever their kids/family/community hang out.

That could be, CC. And as a whole, we like FB, IG, Twitter as those are platforms with a "me-focus". Apps in favor of laptops, etc. And social media doesn't require much intellect. Post a pic of an empty coffee mug with the caption ''can someone get me more coffee'' and you'll gain 100 likes within an hour. I'd say as a whole, society is getting duller because of its obsession with self.

Speaking of ''likes,'' scivillage stands out in that it doesn't provide such features here, and I've grown to like it. To just post something without the thought behind (who might like it) is refreshing. Who doesn't like to be like-d, but it lends to people tilting their replies or posts (this can be seen on FB, IG) merely to gain popularity.

My wife won't let me sign on to FB, IG, Twitter because she knows I'd eventually say something that might make her unpopular with friends, relatives, etc. I honour her request, thus I stick with this forum and TSF. I'm a dinosaur when it comes to internet forums and to tell you the truth I really don't think they've changed much. Woo and crackpottery still abound, science forum or not. Yet I know enough to know what not to say or at least I think I know my limitations and boundaries. No substitute for experience they say.
