ISIS destroys historical treasures

I know there's since been a push against the descriptions that Obama and John Kerry used some months ago that ISIS represents a "nihilistic ideology" and an “ugly, savage, inexplicable, nihilistic, and valueless” movement. In preference for the usual label of "religious extremism". But really, there are times when one almost feels like these characters really would destroy the whole planet if they could. Slowly, so that they could savor the suffering, ruins, and mounting death along the way like laughing devils dancing around the edge of a firepit -- before they finally disemboweled themselves as their final statement of life's suicidal meaninglessness.

I suppose next they'll be burning down libraries and art museums.

They have already been burning books, which isn't nearly as bad as this.

This kind of stuff makes me very angry. These kind of fanatics are the worst sort of savages in my opinion, little more than animals. They seem to take pleasure in brutally killing captives, terrifying everyone and now are trying to erase humanity's historical heritage there in Mesopotamia.

ISIS seems to me to be just as intolerable as Hitler and the Nazis once were.

All they succeed in doing is reminding me over and over why I viscerally dislike Islam, which seems to bring together all of the worst features of every other religion.

Which is just what they want. They are trying as hard as they can to provoke the non-Muslim world. They want to set Islam against everyone else on the planet in an apocalyptic end-times battle. They believe that they are destined to fight the final battle with the forces of evil, a battle where Allah will appear in the sky and intervene on their side and guarantee their victory as foretold in Muslim prophecies. The quicker that happens, the quicker Islam's worldwide Kingdom will become manifest. So ISIS really wants to make the rest of the world so angry that it fights them, thus making the prophecies come true as rapidly as possible.

Some professors are warning about this, arguing that the West shouldn't play into ISIS' hands and give them the confrontation that they so desperately desire. But my question is 'why not'? If we don't believe that God will intervene on ISIS' side, then why shouldn't we rid the world of them?
