The USGS says:

"The ocean entry is a hazardous area. The interaction of lava with the ocean creates "laze", a corrosive seawater plume laden with hydrochloric acid and fine volcanic particles that drifts downwind and can irritate the skin, eyes and lungs. Close to the ocean entry, flying debris from explosive interaction between lava and water is a primary hazard. Additionally, submarine magma-water interaction can result in explosive activity beyond the visible lava delta, creating a hazard that extends offshore. The lava delta is unstable because it is built up to 800 m (0.5 mi) from the former coastline on unconsolidated lava fragments and sand. This loose material can easily be eroded away by surf, causing the new land to become unsupported and slide into the sea."

just noticed that a huricane has gained strenth and heading toward hawaii
the single web site i read said they are expecting acid rain
potentially mud slides and flooding.
currently it says the hurricane has suddenly increased its winds to 120 mph 192kmph

current wind gusts up to 150 mph 240kmph

the weather reporter says current models predict in theory it should weaken and pass under neath hawaii (hopefully)
if it strengethens then it could be an issue
as long as it does not gather more moisture.

Another month has gone by and it's time to check in again.

The Kilauea eruption seems to have at least temporarily stopped. Lava is no longer flowing out of fissure 8 in the lava river and seismic activity and ground deformation have more or less ceased.

But... Hawaii isn't short of excitement. A Hurricane is passing by the islands as we speak. Luckily it's about 100 miles away and wind speeds are rapidly weakening as wind shear pulls it apart. But it's very wet and threatens to bring torrential rains, so there may be flash flooding. Schools and offices are closed and there's lots of sand-bagging.

The rain shouldn't effect the volcano, except that they expect lots of steam around the still-hot lava fields.
