Whenever I hear of organisms alive today that were long thought of as being extinct I can't help but think of the anti-evolution sentimentalists, some aka Creationists. The Coelecanth & Wollemi Pine for example, little or no change over millions of years with many of their ancestors already fossil specimens, fuelling the belief in creation. Granted some creationists believe evolution took place after God created the beasts of the Earth or post flood for Noah's Ark proponents. Very little is said about such amazing creatures finding a niche in their environment, being very successful in their life form, and having next to no reason to respond to changes over the ages that otherwise might bring about an evolution for other creatures. It's like saying there was no evolution prior to creation/ark release because these living fossils have not evolved, despite the fact we are talking about an abysmally low percentage of all the animals that ever lived on Earth. However if examined closely, there can be subtle differences between today's and yesterday's organisms and even that should be enough to confirm evolution.

Yah, so-called "living fossils" like the coelacanths do languidly evolve, of course; introducing minor modifications over the eons. It would be remarkable if it could be definitively declared that no new species ever splintered off from the Coelacanth (but later truly went extinct itself). Due to small in number, special-niche populations leaving fewer traces in a fossil record that's already pre-conditionally doomed to be an incomplete account of all past life.

More evidence giving credence to the thought that we are merely one of many dinner plates for microbes. From the radioactive to the frozen, their menu is vast.  Is there anything they don't eat?
