Perhaps a candidate for Dennett's competence without comprehension or understanding? ("Achieving cognitive significance to humans" in this case being the mind-less accomplishment.) Given that the orchid didn't develop the appearance to either attract or frighten humans, safe to say that there's no blind, non-conscious, drawn-out and incremental mechanistic evolutionary "intent" behind this. There's the extremely late arrival of people and that they didn't even know about and interact with the plant till now. Not to mention a devil "icon" smaller than the end of a finger (details barely perceptible without zoom).
The above dead end having been presented without advertisement interruption purely for the sake of novelty. To dodge the immediate, boring classification of pareidolia in the context of the epistemological worship of a future, ideal world where "We masochistically celebrate the utter eradication of newness / excitement during this reign of robotic predictability, of intellectual standards and investigative methodology having finally abolished ignorance and attained the level of omniscience!"
