Children were talking about space aliens and portals to other dimensions. (Good for them! They must be reading science fiction.)

But the official explanation is that it was a Russian ICBM test that apparently blew up and created a misty cloud of fuel vapor very high up in space that refracted sunlight.

That's a wormhole exit porthole generated by the Fallopians of the Langerhan outpost in the Andromeda galaxy. Looks like just a test run to me.
