EXCERPT: Earlier this year, doctors feared the worst when a young girl with a rare form of epilepsy began experiencing non-stop seizures and had to be placed in a medically induced coma. No treatments worked until she was given the marijuana derivative cannabidiol (CBD), which stopped the seizures. She was taken out of her coma, and now has a second shot at life, The Independent reported. [...] an extremely rare disease that can cause patients to experience hundreds of seizures a day [...] Due to the severity [...] doctors tested an experimental treatment on the young girl involving the marijuana derivative cannabidiol (CBD). I took St John's Wort and various amino acids when I was in the Navy. I was basically self-treating my own depression which I didn't even know I had. Finally a comment about suicide to my mother landed me for 2 weeks in Charter Mental Hospital and got me on the meds I really needed. I was out of the military within months and on my way to "being my creative self" in Portlandia--magical kingdom of the "do your own thangs".
