It's a sobering realization that your mother's own sexual abuse as a child or you father's alcoholism could affect your own brain makeup. It screams out for more determined efforts to heal the far-reaching effects of trauma in our lives.

"Genetic changes stemming from the trauma suffered by Holocaust survivors are capable of being passed on to their children, the clearest sign yet that one person’s life experience can affect subsequent generations.
The conclusion from a research team at New York’s Mount Sinai hospital led by Rachel Yehuda stems from the genetic study of 32 Jewish men and women who had either been interned in a Nazi concentration camp, witnessed or experienced torture or who had had to hide during the second world war.
They also analysed the genes of their children, who are known to have increased likelihood of stress disorders, and compared the results with Jewish families who were living outside of Europe during the war. “The gene changes in the children could only be attributed to Holocaust exposure in the parents,” said Yehuda.
Her team’s work is the clearest example in humans of the transmission of trauma to a child via what is called “epigenetic inheritance” - the idea that environmental influences such as smoking, diet and stress can affect the genes of your children and possibly even grandchildren..."

My understanding is examination of the DNA in genes detects stress-induced epigenetic changes that were inherited.
I'm reminded how my brother and I were just talking about the trauma that native Americans went through over recent generations.

Or since epigenetic changes can be caused by learned habit, they may not be inherited but merely taught. Has anyone isolated the children of Holocaust survivors who weren't raised by their parents?

Hi Elte
i am thinking along the lines of Syne, while also pondering what amount of "good stress" is base-lined to culture a certain amount of drive and/oringenuity.
species wise genocide has been commonplace practice by all human tribes over the generically recorded history dating back some 50,000 years, possibly even suggestive of the variant homosapien domination resulting in weapons to wipe out neanderthals.
Ghengis Khan
Alexandra the Great
Poll Pot
the Great Cruisades
Spanish inquisition
Black plague
Spanish Flu
Hitler mousalini etc etc 20th century
it seems only in the last 100 years has a governing majority actively engaged in heralding the ceasation of Genocide as an acceptable practice.
though it still goes on in many countries (additionally leadership is also governed by blood lines which is noramlised in many modernised countries) etc....
i sense an intended target for the reaserch, which concerns me.
Thus i am interested to see how unbiased it is.
I do not think we need big business looking to lobby government to force social engineering to sell more products while manipulating the holocaust Victims and their decendants.
Qwasi science to leverage emotional attachment just to gain power in some domain is something i do not support.
thus "where is the control group" ?
this question MUST be answered to apply this to actual science.

You've pretty much lost me. Why not let them complain and study their injurious past. I would like to know what happened to my grandparents if I thought it damaged my health through genetics.

Why I’m Skeptical About the Idea of Genetically Inherited Trauma Epigenetics
Thanks, my err. I had not read that.
just finished reading it now.
funny that the emotive inflection of the modern era is so captured in one of the last sentences.
" Self-determination is not at odds with the genetic discoveries being made today."
Such is the age of reality projection upon a stage of self acclaiming insular ideologies, bound in ubiquitous freedom to be insular in social emersion.
let not science be thine stumbling block upon which ye rest thine weary mind.
For i am to only gaze upon the known frailty of human endevour to state my case upon the world.
