Sacks himself has experienced cinematographic vision following the drinking of sakau, a popular intoxicant in Micronesia, describing a swaying palm as "a succession of stills, like a film run too slow, its continuity no longer maintained.

Evolutionarily women have required the ability to detach from reality to cope with being sexual and domestic slaves for the last few centurys.

Just a casual observation: Watching the pendulum swing on my mom's grandfather clock got me to thinking about the present. The point or unattached end, never really comes to rest during a swing. There's no point that I can see along that arc of travel where it actually pauses. Always moving forward in any of its directions of travel.

Side to side, up and down, didn't matter because it's so consistent. I just wondered how much time is like that. Even at it's highest point I couldn't be sure if it actually stops and I don't think it really goes backwards on a return swing. The present, for me, is like that tip of the pendulum, always moving forward in time with really no other way to go.
