The Morality Behind Veganism?

What happened to Leigha’s topic?

I was going to admit that I can’t ethically defend eating meat but the topic is gone.

I deleted it.

I felt like my posts were being misconstrued to appear like I'm trying to convince others to adopt the lifestyle, when the thread was to bring awareness and to offer why I'm considering a the path towards veganism. I clarified that point a few times, but seemed like people's minds were made up that I was trying to convert others to my way of thinking.

Let me get this straight.  You deleted the topic because you don’t want anyone to think that you’re trying to convert them.  Is that right?  That’s what raising awareness is all about.

I’m going to be straight with you.  I’ve said this to you before.  Put on your big girl pants.  You can’t continue to rely on pictures of cute girls that you plucked off the internet in order to rally others to your aid.

There is nothing wrong with persuasion.  There’s a big difference between persuasion and coercion.  Each person is going to enter into your topic with their own ideas and feelings.  You should consider those ideas and feelings beforehand and respond accordingly.  If you want to gain information and other perspectives, you have to actively listen.

Don’t you have any confidence in your ability to communicate your thoughts effectively?  What are you so afraid of?

How do we learn, Wegs?

"There five trees in Paradise which do not change, either in summer or in winter, and their leaves do not fall."

Five human senses produce one's internal world view and belief system.

Tell me and I will forget.
Show me and I may remember.
Involve me and I will understand.

Vegan/vegetarianism is a great topic and for many reasons, people are choosing to eat less meat. Greater awareness of the means of production, environmental impacts and resources used as well as the end cost being some of the major points that come up. For many people it is becoming a fiscal decision even more than a moral one, and if people had to select and process their own meat, the visceral involvement would likely place many more on the meatless path.

It is theorized that eating meat and the learned skill of cooking contributed to the evolutionary increase in our brain size.

Quote: Eating meat and cooking food made us human, the studies suggest, enabling the brains of our prehuman ancestors to grow dramatically over a period of a few million years.

Although this isn't the first such assertion from archaeologists and evolutionary biologists, the new studies demonstrate, respectively, that it would have been biologically implausible for humans to evolve such a large brain on a raw, vegan diet and that meat-eating was a crucial element of human evolution at least 1 million years before the dawn of humankind.

Quote:Yet both "extreme sides" of the meat argument — the unapologetic meat eater and the raw vegan — should remember that few so-called natural foods today were around as little as a few hundred years ago, from the modern invention called corn-fed beef to genetically altered strains of Queen Anne's lace called the carrot.

From health to the environment, there are many reasons to go vegetarian, go vegan and even go raw, but evolution isn't one of them.

People could be far more irritated by the deletion of any non-trivial work effort they put into their replies. One who develops a habit of removing threads will have fewer responding to them in the future because others anticipate the discussions being eliminated when _X_ circumstance(s) develop.

That's sufficient. Correct a misconception and then just personally drop out of the discussion (ignore) if the misrepresenting still persists in a wholesale manner. (Don't be drawn or suckered into a futile fray of continually trying to repair something that either deliberately or via dysfunctional momentum refuses to allow itself to be repaired.)

The evidence (of the clarifications) remains on the board as reference, whereas if deleted there is only the memory floating around of an "agenda" having transpired, with nothing remaining to expose it as a bogus projection, or for derailing a hypothesis of it having been such. (Which is to say, give credit to passing lurkers in days, weeks, months, and years to come as having powers of discernment in regard to a topic.)

Some individuals or cliques need a bugbear to battle as a stimulant for making a subject interesting to them. You can even post news on a board with no comments of your own and get some heated comments directed at either the author, the parties described, or even seemingly yourself. View it as making a member happy by providing them a dragon to slay, or granting them a public opportunity to get something off their chest in regard to the subject matter.

That is no excuse for deleting the posts of others on your whim. That is rude and a violation of the mutual trust of posters. We spent time reading and discussing your views, and for our attention we get all those posts deleted.

100% agreed. This should not be allowed on any reputable forum. Any poster could have a bad day and delete ALL their threads, taking who knows how many posts with them.

Yes, I understand that you may not comprehend that discussions can start between people other than the OP in a thread, and that those discussions being erased by the OP is not a problem for you. That's your prerogative.

Why you feel the need to try to police the use of the reputation system, when you've already been shown the Admin's own words on the subject, and call people names is beyond me.

It's been reinstated, I'll lock this thread to stop further confusion.
