The morality behind veganism

We are just animals.

After all, that's exactly the case you're making for abortion. If it isn't a person, you are free to kill it. And if animals have more personhood than a fetus, why is it okay to kill them?

A human fetus is a potential animal.

So you are justifying your own natural inclinations over any ethical obligation. Good to know. Means all your preaching here is completely meaningless.

Yet you eat animals. Does that make cannibalism ethical too? Or is that just another example of your complete inability to reason beyond your impulsive emotions? Never mind. I already know the answer. God knows, you've expressed it enough already.

Do you think it’s a good idea to give the state the authority to decide whether or not a woman will carry a pregnancy to term?

Do you think it's a good idea to give the state the power to say people are not property?

This thread has taken a curious turn. Big Grin

As an update (should anyone care lol), think I'm going to steer more towards a vegetarian lifestyle, over veganism. I like eggs, and all of this research helped me to at least make better buying decisions as it relates to steering clear of inhumane farms, that use hormones and antibiotics as part of their process. In a way, I feel a sense of guilt over this decision, though. Not sure why.

At least you'll have an easier time maintaining a healthy diet...eggs being a good source of protein. Seems to fit all of your moral criteria, so I'm not sure why you'd feel any guilt either. It's not like dairy eggs are even fertilized, so they have no potential to become a chick.

I'm sure it'll pass. It could be that I just started really feeling the motivation behind veganism, whereas before I sort of scoffed at vegans as ''holier than thou.'' Talk about karma of some type.  Blush

Anyway. I started weighing everything, from health benefits to morality to logic to emotion to a variety of things, and not leaning towards veganism won out. But, I will never scoff at a vegan ever again, because I understand what drives them a bit more now, than I used to.

A hypocrite pretends to have virtues.  I admitted that eating meat may be unethical, but I'm not, nor will I pretend to be a vegan.

Well?  Do you think it’s a good idea to give the state the authority to decide whether or not a woman will carry a pregnancy to term?  Would you make an exception for rape victims?

hypocrisy - behavior that does not agree with what someone claims to believe or feel

If you have virtues and believe eating meat to be unethical, eating meat is hypocritical. And if you have no virtues and are lecturing others about ethics, you are equally hypocritical. Now you can have no virtues and make no ethical claims, or refrain from doing what you believe to be unethical. Both are equally consistent and sincere.

And don't think that I'm going to play your little game of fifty questions when you ignore not only most my questions but also whole posts. I'm not interested in enabling your maladaptive coping mechanisms, where when faced with an argument you cannot refute (or cognitive dissonance you cannot quell), you simply go hunting for something that you can firmly disagree with so you can paint all my arguments with the same broad brush to help you feel better.

Well, it’s not rocket science.  You’ve been preaching ethical consistency.  According to you, ethics requires consistency across the board.  Therefore, you’d oppose legal abortion in all cases, including rape and incest for adults and minors.
