A track(?) Liegha suggested reminded me of Pat Methaney. Of this track I have to say I am not sure Pat Metheny (the guitarist) is the best musician in the Pat Methany group. If listening with a friend make sure the sheets are fresh and clean.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gm7L3LEyz8 Edit.. It seems (Wiki) he (Pat Metheny) is the same age as me - hence (probably) the cultural connection and some pride in finding someone of my age that didn't foul up completely.

This follows on from CC's gorgeous healing of the New Music thread - I can't pretend it's new. Kind'a worrying when you see old fogeys playing (brilliantly) and they are younger than yourself. Anyway - Stefan Grossman - light touch on the 6 string piano.

OMG, he still lives and you crossed paths with him, too! My brother ordered stuff from Kicking Mule. I didn't even know Rory's name was short for "Aurora" (definitely dropped the latter on some of the later books). I remember Grossman writing in autobiographical intros to songs in one of them about braving the streets to get lessons from Rev. Gary Davis. Stefan got dislocated for a decade(?) in Italy, where his wife was from. I'd never have had a clue who Davey Graham was back then without looking through some of those Kicking Mule catalogs and tablature books, despite Jimmy Page and a legion of others semi-ripping off his stuff ("Cry Me A River" / "Stairway To Heaven" opening riff). Toss experimenting with DADGAD tuning for days in there, and if had been otherwise, my not knowing Graham was the inventor of it. Kind of rings a faint bell via the lyrics of one of those bygone tablature books, but can't recall what he (probably handed down from Rev. Davis) would have called it. It's a line that appears in variable versions of several songs with different titles: Salty Dog, Cumberland Gap, Talking Blues, etc. ### |
