Celebrating the Classic Circuits of Forrest M. Mims III
http://makezine.com/2016/05/04/classic-c...-mims-iii/

EXCERPT: Many of us who became interested in electronics and hardware hacking in the 1980s have an immense nostalgic soft spot in our hearts for the books of Forrest M. Mims III. When RadioShack was our mecca, there among the flat file drawers full of components and the racks of tools and supplies, you could also buy Mims’ Getting Started in Electronics and his Engineer’s Notebooks series. At the time, there was a dearth of decent beginner electronics books. Publishers like TAB meant well, but they had production budgets too low to manage decent photography and illustration, respectable copy editing, and they had electrical engineers writing their books who should probably have just stuck with the soldering and circuit testing....

How to weatherstrip a door: 15 steps with photos

EXCERPT: Trying to keep your house nice and cozy is a lot like trying to keep a cup of coffee hot. There's a simple principle we all follow when we want to keep our coffee hot in our travel mug: close the lid. The thickest and most well insulated thermos in the world is worthless if we don't close the lid. And it's gotta be tight. Just cracking that lid even a smidgen is the difference between hot coffee for two hours or ten minutes. Weatherstripping an old door is simple and cheap, yet almost everyone does it wrong. Here's how to weatherstrip a door the right way, using bronze weatherstripping. This project is moderately easy but it will take a couple of hours to do correctly. Be patient and buy good quality bronze weatherstripping with pre-punched nail holes....

How to Prevent Hardening of the Arteries
http://www.wikihow.com/Prevent-Hardening...e-Arteries

EXCERPT: The hardening of the arteries, or atherosclerosis, is a cardiovascular disease in which the innermost layer of the artery thickens and attracts deposits of fat or plaque. Over time, plaque eventually protrudes into the artery and interferes with blood flow. Sometimes, it breaks off into the bloodstream and causes heart attack, stroke, or serious blockage in the lungs, kidneys, or legs. Make no mistake: atherosclerosis is a life-threatening disease. However, you can take steps to prevent it by treating the most commonly associated factors, including smoking, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol....

We used his Engineers Notebook as a circuit reference in our electronics class.  I recall us setting up an audio warbling circuit like he had shown.

My brother had a tall / wide paperback electronics book he got from Radio Shack, that also carried their logo. It had hand-drawn illustrations and diagrams in it. Can't remember the author, but I assume it was surely Mims.
