Melanocyte stimulating hormone

http://www.yourhormones.info/hormones/me...rmone.aspx -- "Melanocyte-stimulating hormone is a collective name for a group of peptide hormones produced by the skin, pituitary gland and hypothalamus in response to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It plays a key role in producing coloured pigmentation found in the skin, hair and eyes. It does this by inducing specialised skin cells called melanocytes to produce a pigment called melanin; melanin protects cells from DNA damage which can lead to skin cancer (melanoma)."

The conventional thought is that sun exposure directly causes melanoma, yet that seems to have trouble correlating with how most melanomas happen on parts of the body that usually are protected from the sun.  My opinion is that the ultraviolet light exposure stimulates the release of melanocyte stimulating hormone, which then acting on covered skin basically confuses it, greatly increasing the potential of it developing a malignant mole.   In the old days before clothing, that wouldn't have been a problem since everything was exposed on our pre-homosapiens ancestors.
