Quantum physics has just been found hiding in one of the most important mathematical models of all time
http://www.sciencealert.com/physicists-j...ame-theory

EXCERPT: Game theory is a branch of mathematics that looks at how groups solve complex problems. The Schrödinger equation is the foundational equation of quantum mechanics - the area of physics focused on the smallest particles in the Universe. There’s no reason to expect one to have anything to do with the other. But according to a team of French physicists, it’s possible to translate a huge number of problems in game theory into the language of quantum mechanics. In a new paper, they show that electrons and fish follow the exact same mathematics....

Why a real lightsaber would be the most dangerous weapon on the planet
http://www.theage.com.au/technology/sci-...nyfbn.html

EXCERPT: Research is an unpredictable process. Sometimes you end up making a really cool discovery that you didn't see coming. I recently uncovered a fundamental property of lightsabers (that's right – the awesome weapons from Star Wars) while doing my regular plasma physics research. I found that, while it is in theory possible to build a lightsaber, it's likely it would be the most dangerous weapon ever created – both for the perpetrator and the victim....

A Physicists' Free Time
http://www.science20.com/a_quantum_diari...ime-169520

EXCERPT: It's been a while since the last time I talked about myself in this column. I think that a blog must contain personal information to be interesting - otherwise why sticking around, when there's tons of good (yes, also bad) information in the web? But here you can get some particle physics information mixed in with things that, although you need not know or care about, it's fun to share and comment on. Or at least I hope it's so, for the few of you who read this. So, where to take it from...
