And Stewart was upfront about it. None of that "progressive" label stuff that became popular with latter-day Labour and that even some DSA members in the US don as a skinsuit (when running for office.).

Thanks to that Ashkenazi longevity, the 95-year-old is apparently still on track to outlive them all (the original cast, but apparently now some members of STNG even).
  • William Shatner Pays Tribute to Patrick Stewart

EXCERPT: “What a heartbreaking week it has been,” Shatner wrote on social media, alluding to Koenig’s death as well. “Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did.”

Stewart’s Picard and Shatner’s Kirk eventually shared the screen together in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations, a passing-of-the-torch film that served as a cinematic send-off for the original Star Trek cast and a welcoming of The Next Generation crew to the big screen.

“Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him,” Shatner added. “I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to [Stewart’s wife] Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.”

"Beyond acting, Patrick Stewaart supported human rights, domestic violence survivors, refugees, veterans’ mental health services, and animal welfare, including fostering pit bulls."

Sir Patrick Stewart is such a great ally to the LGBT community that he’s been mistakenly labelled a gay man himself.

EXCERPT: #7: Patrick attracted a barrage of criticism when he declared his support for a Christian bakery that refused to make a ‘support gay marriage’ cake.

He responded with an impassioned Facebook post, in which he explained his stance, and said he has “long championed the rights of the LGBT community”…

“During the interview, I was asked about the Irish bakers who refused to put a message on a cake which supported marriage equality, because of their beliefs.

“I know many disagree with my sentiments, including the courts. I respect and understand their position, especially in this important climate where the tides of prejudices and inequality are (thankfully) turning.”

He continued: “What I cannot respect is that some have conflated my position on this single matter to assume I’m anti-equality or that I share the personal beliefs of the bakers. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could be further from the truth.

“I have long championed the rights of the LGBT community, because equality should not only be, as the people of Ireland powerfully showed the world, universally embraced, but treasured.”

Surely there's another one somewhere, but Safe House seems to be the only film I can recall ever seeing him in where he's got the lead role rather than co-starring with other actors or playing secondary characters.

When watching Picard it was amazing how calm, cool, composed and confident he was and one couldn’t help wonder how Kirk ever commanded a starship. Perhaps Starfleet learned their lesson, no more Kirks.

On a side note, Patrick Stewart wasn't the only Trek actor lost this week. Stewart was obviously more known for the numerous roles he played so it makes sense that his passing is noticeable, but Walter Koenig (Chekov) is also now deceased.

I guess it's just a sign of time creeping up on all of us.
