British Colombia has long been the Portland Oregon of Canada, a beautiful place (coast, mountains, climate...) that's attracted dissatisfied people from everywhere else who wanted to create a left-wing paradise.
As a result, it's long been ruled by the New Democratic Party, a hard-left party that is basically what the US Democrats would be if they were all DSA socialists.
Well, the ruling NDP's Premier decided to call a snap provincial election in hopes of increasing his party's slim parliamentary majority.
The Conservatives have won an absolute parliamentary majority, this for the first time in almost a century!
Canadians are weird people (yes, yes, we already knew that!)
Politically, they've given the Liberal Party a majority in the Federal parliament in Ottawa. This is a European-style pro-globalist party (hence their snuggling up to the EU) that resembles the older-style (and now fading) "moderate" Democrats in the United States. (The Liberals don't even exist in BC provincial politics, where their remnants may have moved to the Conservatives, perhaps helping put them over the top.)
But provincially, Canadian voters seem to be favoring the Conservative party, a squishy party resembling the British Conservatives or the old-style Bushite Republicans in the US. (The Canadian Conservatives used to call their party the 'Progressive Conservatives', which kind of sums that up. Though in Alberta and Saskatchewan they are a little more MAGA-esque.)

And it backfired spectacularly!

That result doubly ensures that across the pond, Burnham isn't going to call a general election before 2029. The polls say Reform has declined in popularity, but even Labour apparently doesn't trust MSM accuracy anymore.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Monday there would be no British election "any time soon", saying his focus was on governing when asked whether voters would get a chance to back his vision for closer ties with the European Union...
Never in my life have I seen so much American interest in Canadian politics. Big difference between Federal and Provincial elections. Wasnt that long ago the Federal Conservatives didn’t win enough seats to keep party status. They hooked up with the Canadian Reform Party and then became affectionately known as the CCRAP Party for a time. Pretty funny. Anyways they had the last election all but wrapped up in the polls and then Liberal leader Trudeau abdicated and Carney ended up running for PM at last minute and voila. West a Conservative stronghold again but who knows for how long? Carney not going anywhere for a while. I think I’ve voted Liberal more than Conservative federally but close to 50/50 provincially. Once NDP in Ontario and they won, who knew? Doubt if that ever happens again for the NDP.
I like having more choices than two. A party with only a few seats through coalition with a leading party can put together enough seats comb8ned to form a government and have some of their platform put into many bills that get passed. Gives us some variety.
