Why we have to sleep every night.

New agey nonsense. We sleep to workout and desensitize subconscious stimuli of the previous day. Since the subconscious is analogous to instinct in animals, sleep resets the stimuli so it isn't just an ever-increasing cumulative response of stress, fear, etc..

Sometimes when I wake up suddenly there is a brief moment of not knowing where I am or what point of time I'm in. Which suggests to me that the reality we are so used to thinking of as surrounding us and always already being there is more like a present state of consciousness. Everything absolutely "out there" depending on some culturally downloaded software of remembered things and semantic predications and projected sensory qualia and learned involuntary beliefs. Sleep is just the nightly rebooting of this reality-generating software.

Dissociation can be a symptom of mental illness.
