The BBC used taxpayer money to make a hit piece on JK Rowling? (UK brewing)

What's interesting is the idea that some things do indeed get too big to put them back in the bottle because their creator is politically incorrect to one faction or another. Fortunately for Rowling, she didn't make it on the new commie list till the late 2010s. Potter was too much of a pandemic by then.

Otherwise, nothing new. Even funded educational systems have made targets out of individuals and movements in the classroom going back to the turn of the 20th-century. Surely Monty Python and scores of other entertainment programs on the BBC parodied or degraded or criticized somebody across the many decades. Not just BBC documentary programming.

VIDEO EXCERPTS: When you look at the hate that gets leveled at JK Rowling, it's absolutely absurd. I'm a relative nobody in the world of fantasy fiction online, compared to her. She's the master of everything at this point. But I know exactly what it means to cross the narrative and have these people go at you over and over again with spurious, awful things. It weighs on you.

But it's amazing that she can just let this slide off. So, I guess if you're a billionaire, it helps. It helps. You've got a billion reasons to not worry about it. It would be nice to get to that level, of course.

Now, in a lot of ways, Harry Potter got so big culturally that it's too big to fail and that they cannot remove it from the culture. They really can't do anything. And that's why she can be so smug all the time in response, which is just a glorious way to react to things and makes me like her all the more.

Now the BBC is going at her directly at this point, and it's pretty weird. When I saw this story, I was like, how can this be legal? Because the BBC is not just some random media entity making a gotcha thing. They're taxpayer-funded. They are state-funded. They're state controlled.

So this means the actual state of the UK is actively trying to incite hatred against its own citizen, JK Rowling. That is what's happening here. That's the implication of this.

[...] This is a two-part JK Rowling documentary that they are putting out on her. And the second episode is not about her. It's not about going off on her views concerning gender identity. So, it is an entire episode with the intention of directing hate against her. Says it places her at the heart of increasingly bitter online exchanges. JK Rowling will not be interviewed for this.

The film's working title is called JK Rowling. It's made by Rogan Scotland and green lit by BBC 2, BBC Scotland, and iPlayer.

It's due on the BBC next year after Harry Potter's HBO series releases in December. In an effort to incite hate when the TV show comes up. And I've said this is very weird because we talked about Will Wheaton earlier this week saying that all the actors should be ashamed of themselves and going at them. Remember, there are child actors involved here. So these people are trying to harass child actors; that's what it comes down to. All because of JK Rowling's views.

Now the first episode will spotlight the creation of Harry Potter, the stratospheric success of the wizarding universe created by Rowling. There's nothing wrong with that. That is a legitimate documentary. The second one will examine her interventions on Scottish independence, feminism, free speech, and gender identity, which place her at the heart of increasingly bitter online exchanges. It's obviously a hit piece and a hatchet job on her. The new series will draw on archive material...
