Brazil is holding their Presidential election today.
Flávio Bolsonaro is a Trumpish conservative, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro who survived a severe stabbing in an attempted assassination and was later thrown in jail by the left, making it impossible for him to run again. So his son is standing in for him.
Lula is the current incumbent and a socialist. He's anti-American and third-world-centric. (The B in 'BRICS' stands for Brazil.)
The rest of the votes went to ten other minor candidates.
With most of the vote in, preliminary results are below:
The way it works is that if a candidate doesn't get 50%, the top two candidates face each other in a run-off. I'm hopeful that Flavio Bolsonaro can win the runoff, assuming that the election is fair. Which in Brazil isn't a given, considering that the socialists will do anything to win. (It's why Flavio's father is in prison and why they tried to shut down Elon's X platform in Brazil.) I expect that they will conclude that they underestimated the conservative opposition and will double down on dirty tricks.
From the looks of it, the conservatives won everywhere except Brazil's northeast, the poorest part of the country, which is the socialists' heartland.
