I'd like to know how and why it all happened. There are secrets of the universe that I will never know.

Doesn't even appeal to the implications of spacetime. I mean, they've actually got this one construct in science where everything can be interpreted as substantive and eternal rather than a transitory flicker or illusion oriented toward constant, incremental doom or extinction. But instead most of them still opt for the common worship of ephemera. A naïveté that even most uneducated proles would likewise be surrendering themselves to if not for belief in resurrection and "paradise" awaiting at the end of their religious tunnel.

Roger Penrose: I think there is a positive side to this picture of space and time being laid out there as 4 dimensions, because it tells you that all times are there once and it can affect the way one thinks about people who have died. I mean, I remember thinking in this kind of way when my mother died. In some sense she was still there because her existence is still out there in space/time although in our time she is not alive. A colleague of mine had a son who died in tragic circumstances and I presented this idea to him and it helped his understanding also. This was before I heard that Einstein had a colleague died and he wrote to the man's wife that Bessa was still out there, and that somehow this was reassuring. I certainly think this way often, that space/time is laid out and that things in the past and things in the future are out there still.

I'm tired of looking out my little window. I want my whole protoplasmic house torn down so I can roam freely thruout the universe. How cruel of Mother Nature to only begrudge us this brief sneak preview of a 13.5 billion years old universe with 2 trillion galaxies! It's like dropping a tiny morsel to a starving dog from a table set with a lavish and sumptuous feast!
