Reno Wildfires

Reno Nevada is under threat from a major wildfire called the Hawk fire. This one has burned a large area of sparsely populated scrub and forest just northwest of Reno and is now threatening the city's northern outskirts. Evacuation orders (leave now) and warnings (prepare to leave) hit about 90,000 people, about 1/4 of the total 400,000 population of Reno metro. The evacuation leave-now orders are right up to the boundary of the University of Nevada campus, but last I heard classes are still being held on Monday Aug 24.

Apparently only 32 homes have burned as of yet, but large areas are threatened. But firefighters are having some success and claim 27% containment which hopefully means they have stopped its progress into the city. Latest is that the evacuation orders/warnings have been dialed back to about 60,000 people. The Nevada National Guard is working the fire alongside regular firefighters.
